Let's get back on the subject of original birth certificates.
Who has them? Who destroys them? Why would they destroy them?
It takes the same amount of space to house a microfilm than to house an original, unless they put dozens of birth certificates on one microfilm, in which case, I have never heard of or witnessed such a thing. 7/22/2012 3:52:49 PM |

You clearly don't know anything about microfilm, yet you are asserting that microfilm doesn't or can't work a certain way.
Do you realize why this makes me think you're trolling...? Your local public library probably has some stuff on microfilm (or can direct you to where you can see one), just walk in and play with a machine. It's free.
If you don't know about something, don't form opinions on it. You are forming your opinions based on poor knowledge, then asserting that others are wrong. This makes no sense... 7/22/2012 4:18:39 PM |

Thank you A Tanzarian for being patient with me.
I would still like to know Hawaii's method of choice for document destruction, so if you find that information, let me know.
Also, would like to know how long they keep it on file after they scan it to microfilm before they destroy it.
Also, would like to know how many people verify it before it's destroyed to check for typos, but lets face it, it's impossible to have a 100% accurate database. 7/22/2012 5:43:53 PM |

I don't recall ever saying that I can't comprehend how microfilm could take less space to store. I remember saying that I was under the assumption that the original document was never destroyed. I have to take your word for it that the ORIGINAL original document was destroyed.
After typing in to google to research how they are destroyed, I read this:
"Directly contradicting CNN chief Jon Klein – who ordered host Lou Dobbs to quit discussing President Obama’s birth certificate – the Hawaii Department of Health affirmed that no paper birth certificates were destroyed when the department moved to electronic record-keeping."
"“Any records that we had in paper or any other form before 2001 are still in file within the department,” she insisted. “We have not destroyed any vital statistics records that we have.”

You can see how one can be confused about what's fact and fiction. Pay close attention.

Oh sure, that makes perfect sense. I know that even after I saw model trains I still wondered how anyone could afford to store them since I thought they took up the same space as a real train.
I'm truly curious to hear the ridiculous bullshit you'll make up to explain how you thought microfilm was stored such that it took up the same space as the original documents. Please, laughing this hard is truly worth reading the dumb shit.

I would not read too much into this quote. Obviously, I can't speak to exactly what the Hawaii Department of Health does or doesn't do with its records. Based on my experience, however:
Best practices and standards for long-term digital archiving is still somewhat unsettled. It would not suprise me that non-digital records (e.g., paper and microfilm) existing at the time of Hawaii's 2001 digital transistion are still being maintained and controlled as archive records even after being scanned.
On the other hand, I would be suprised if paper records that had been previously microfilmed were still maintained as archive records. Paper records (including Obama's birth certificate) may still physically exist as stacks of boxes in the back of a warehouse somewhere, but I would question the retrievability and quality of those records.
It's worth noting that Hawaii now only accepts birth certificates submitted electronically by hospitals.]7/22/2012 8:25:33 PM |
