amendment one has nothing to do with this argument

you cant even compartmentalize and you expect to be able to just drop into the middle of a discussion and introduce relevant thought?

you are far from correct sir

^^ i wasn't making things up. You wouldn't say it's reasonable to see someone blatantly hating gays in a thread, that then bashes anti-amendment 1 people, to figure that person was pro-amendment 1?

it wasnt all about gays

theres homosexual issues
and theres issues concerning the relationships of all people
all within amendment one
with interest to the greater good, coupled with my feelings that everyone should have the same legal rights and their relationships should be recognized, i was opposed to the amendment

however, on a personal level I do not consider the lifestyle of homosexuality anything normal or acceptable, in my humble opinion

thats all, its just me i aint nobody...im not ever going to be out protesting against gays, but when I asked i say i do not support it on a personal level

its not hard to differentiate personal beliefs from political beliefs, and people can have varying opinions within themselves

i can say i like fighting, but I dont believe 5 year old girls should be fighting each other

seriously though, aside from gay marriage, which is legal in some states, what laws demonize gays?

i think states' rights are better than federal rights anyway, and the US Constitution agrees

Fat people sue organizations all the time for their alleged discrimination even though they aren't real people, THAT argument is a red herring as well.

Back on topic. I'd let BHS stay in the house all day to figure out the best fishing holes in the area. I'd even take him with me as long he promised not to knock my ass out and bury me in the bottom of the lake.

I completely get that this is what TT10 does from time to time (and I gotta believe that he does it with a huge smirk on his face) but still

I know that I (and I have to imagine that I wouldn't be the only one) would be pretty pissed off if I was told that I couldn't marry my girlfriend who I'm madly in love with

but again I realize what he's doing and I know that he's a much smarter dude than the one quoted

if 'society' ie your state's law, didn't allow you to marry your girlfriend, why wouldn't you just move in with her / have her move in with you, and live together forever happily ever after?

maybe i know too many people younger than me who have gotten divorced so i'm skewed in that viewpoint, i dunno

i just don't see why technically marrying someone is some huge deal if you're willing to put a half a century into the relationship regardless

One thing and one thing only lead to the Civil War. Slavery. Don't be fooled into over analyzing it. Not State's rights, Northern aggression, or any other bullshit excuse.

how about the federal government legalizes gay marriage, but says that for both gay marriages and male/female marriages, you have to live with your partner for 5 years before you can go through with it period

that would cut the divorce rate in half, at least

but that would never work, cause some states would say you could get married without the 5 year trial period, and we'd have another Civil War!

come the fuck on

this comes from some weird bizarro world that doesnt exist

in the real world, it's unfair to grant rights to one group of consenting adults and restrict another group, based soley on sexual orientation

^^i just think marriage is a huge hassle more often than not, its a legal contract of some shit people would do regardless

if no marriage whatsoever existed in this country, between any people, wouldnt people just live together and start families without marriage?

since it does however exist, i agree anyone should be allowed to do it

doesnt mean half of the M/M M/F and F/F couples arent going to end up miserable and divorce

or the south was completely anti national government until 1850 when the compromise allowed runaway slaves to be returned back to the south by FEDERAL employees

which of course they hated except for that instance

anyway, hypocrisy in politics is nothing new

So you believe that the South was fighting for the rights of States against a tyrannical federal government, and not to defend slavery? Please tell me you're not one of these people. And yes, of course the North were no saints whatsoever to blacks.

The only "accomplish" of the "State's rights" doctrine was to hold back the civil rights of southern blacks post-Civil War.

I don't disagree with a word you just wrote. Especially from a Southern soldiers point of view. Doesn't mean that's why the war was started in the first place.

States rights are great nowadays, I am somewhat ignorant to the viewpoints of people 150 years ago

point is and always was, the 10th amendment is good, because the federal fuckstick govt doesnt have complete say over varying opinions in different parts of the country

slavery is a bad example of states rights turning into shit...dumb hippies on the left coast smoking weed while alabama's state laws still prohibit it is a good example of states rights doing what they think is right for their own state

holy shit did i just defend alabama

right, but just to clarify..the states rights argument was a smoke screen for slavery

southern states hated national power...until the compromise of 1850 which gave the feds the ability to return runaway slaves...then they were magically cool with it
