i periodically purge my friends list because i don't see the point in being "friends" with someone whose newsfeed contributions are of no interest to me and who i don't talk to on FB or IRL

i'm down to just over 100 "friends" on FB, but they are, for the most part, people i know, talk to, and hang out with

I did a massive purge of friends recently. I was like there is no way in hell that I really know 1200 people.

I basically just started to delete anyone that I knew if we were to pass each other in the street not one word would be said to each other.

I also delete people as I see them pop up in my news feed...the ones that I missed during the purge.

But everytime I see someone post that they just did a friend purge and I made the cut...it always feels like somewhat of a victory.

unrelated but related -
i've deleted a few extended family members, mostly because they are buttheads, but a few i've had to let stay just to keep peace in the family. mostly i don't want my parents taking the blame for me, which they've already done most of my life. i did unsubscribe from them though and now they have to actually tell me something rather than expect me to catch it in my news feed, which they won't, so like i never knew one of their daughter's broke their arm. this pisses them off too because i'm supposed to be following their every word, so i guess i should just unfriend them.

i was hanging out with Skwinkle and Fareako one night and he was trying to look up something on my facebook that i had been talking about posting (or something like that? i dunno) and he couldn't find me and was all "i coulda sworn we were friends on here" and i was like "oh yeah, you must have deleted me" and he was like "oh uh i guess..." but i was just trying to blame it on him even though really i had deleted him because he came up in my feed and i was all like "who the f is that dude? delete!" because i forgot who he was. and now he knows the truth.

In the beginning of facebook, this was my rule. On campus when I walked by someone and they didn't acknowledge me, I would go back to the dorm and delete them. However, I started running into those people years later and would have to re-friend them. That got too awkward, so now I just try to keep it to people I at least know.
