i don't know that he could get in trouble for taking the entire unopened package back to UPS/FedEx for return shipment or calling up Amazon?

"I would imagine the logistics of that could get tricky though. Suppose he receives a call in a couple of weeks:
"Hi, this is Amazon, we appear to have sent you a gun instead of your TV. We'd like it back please."

"You sent me the wrong item, not my fault, I'm keeping it."

"Sorry, that's not allowed. If you keep it we'll get the authorities involved."

"Do you realize you broke the law by transporting that into DC?"

"Do *you* realize you're *breaking* the law by keeping it in that case?"

I just don't see how that would turn out well, as nice an idea as it is."

The correct response to the first statement is " What? I never received any package. Speaking of which, where the fuck is my TV?"

It said that the package was left out in the hallway of his apartment complex, so anyone could have taken it. There was no signature. Shit, he could probably even get his TV out of the deal as well.

Like I said, internet shopping lottery

I'm surprised they didn't send in a SWAT team and unleash the brutality on this guy when he called the police.

I mean, are we living in the police state of the America, or the "act reasonably" state? He's lucky to still be alive today.

Good point. Somehow I mentioned drop shipping and yet failed to consider the plausible deniability of such.

guns pretty much always require a signature on delivery. sounds like his shipping label got stuck on the wrong box.

^yep.

Aside from DC's asinine firearm laws, the misuse of assault weapon, and the misuse of weapon, if I were in this guy's shoes and were going to do the right thing, I would have just called UPS and said, "Wrong package; illegal item, you come get it and deal with it". Next I would have contacted the seller. Police would have been the last option. Fuck Don't trust the police.

Well hopefully he didn't sign for it either, so he can pull the same scam I stated above just in reverse.

^^I can see it now. Soccermom Susan orders her kid Billy a telescope for Christmas, and nosy next-door Darlene calls Cary PD about a high powered assault weapon and a high capacity clip about to kill babies and puppies.

My comments were based on IRL friends who remind me of this guy. No hate; although I stand by my comments.

I'm not sure that many of you replying in this thread understand how seriously DC takes gun possession violations. As a District resident, the guy did the right thing in the CYA sense.
