no idea. if i were to describe what i believe in... it'd be a mostly socialist society where the environment was like 90% of every decision made.

Come on, that's what the dream of the conservatives is like too (hint hint, the "golden age" never happened).

simonn, can you define for me a little more what your "mostly socialist society" would be? What is this "mostly"? Where do you draw the line of taking money from those that can, and give to those that can't? What is your idea of equilibrium? Do you want everyone's average income to be the same? Like I said in the other thread, not everyone out there is going to take your money and better themselves, just like not everyone who has money got it through ill-gotten means, which is probably what people want to think.

Since when did being successful in this country become something to be looked down upon?

You really want to help out those that need a hand? Start younger. Make college more affordable. All these elitist professors - do they really need to make 6 figures when the school they work for is heavily subsidized by the government? You all talk about capping pay for CEO's, shit cap pay for professors. I realize that 6 figures doesn't hold a candle to 7 or 8, and yea, no one person is really worth that much, but again, if you want to help, start by making a college degree more easily attainable. As long as school loans are government subsidized, publishing companies know they can charge 150-350 for text books. Do something about that. You know the same textbook, in the same language, overseas (I believe in Thailand) costs $50, because the publishers know that is all the market will bear for that book. So its not what went into that textbook, its what they know they can get b/c of all these school loans floating around.

But hey, Obama isn't going to touch higher education, because he knows its a hotbed for progressives. Thats his base, and higher education costs will continue to skyrocket.

you're right, it doesn't. not coincidentally, we are literally doomed as a species b/c we have destroyed our only home.

^ i would love to make college more affordable, but the way to do it is not by cutting $100k salaries and making text books cheaper. just objectively look at what you said and tell me it's not stupid. that's akin to cutting pbs to reduce the deficit. i want to tax rich people (at rates that the united states used to tax rich people; not at some fantasy, but how we used to do it, you know, when the usa was actually a cool place to live) and invest in education at the elementary level, universal health care, food stamps, etc.

i believe that no one should grow up in a country this wealthy w/o proper food, a roof over their head (there are more empty houses in this country than homeless people, that is absolutely fucked up) and a decent education. sadly none of these are guarantees, and it doesn't hurt lazy people it hurts children who can't help themselves. then they grow up to be drug dealers b/c they have to eat somehow and then we throw them in prison and make a profit off of it. it's absurd. also affordable college is a problem of the lower middle class. the lower class isn't even graduating from high school.

and let me make one thing very clear, i'm a white male from the middle class, probably upper middle class. i'm going to be fine. i don't advocate for these things b/c i want to sit around and do nothing. i just want our society to work the way that a society should, and that's not by shitting on people who start out at a lower rung. we basically have half of the country that was born on first and think they hit a single turning their nose up at people who aren't as privileged as them and convincing themselves that no matter what conditions they were born in, they would rise to the top, but it's just not true. it's impossible to rise to the top when your parent(s) have no idea how to teach you to study, your teachers are too worn out to care if you do well or not and you're not sure where your next meal is coming from. people who don't know how they're going to eat are not worried about school, they're just trying to survive.

What do you think happens when you tax rich people?
How would you feel if, at your current salary, your taxes were to increase 10-20%?
What would you do about it?

They give a presidential candidate lots of money to convince a bunch of middle class morons to pay more taxes instead.

Lots of people are dumb but I can read any GOLO article that says Obama in it and find two dozen idiots from right here in our state saying if Obama wins they are going to stock up on ammo for the revolution.

Stupid doesn't discriminate.
