^^^ I tried that, they wouldn't let me order more than 1 at a time. And if they brought one while I still had one, I had to down it before they would give it to me

Although I played Roulette at Trop for a while and got into a good conversation with the dealer that helped shed light on the situation. Apparently all the servers are union, which makes the shitty service make sense. The dealers aren't union. He told me that they make $7.75 an hour, so they pretty much live off tips. Note to those of you planning to go to Vegas: make sure to tip your dealers.

i will say it's been a couple years since i was in vegas, but this is nuts. there is a food court near harrahs (i think just on the north side of it) that has a chipotle, a mcdonalds (upstairs) and some chinese place and a pizza joint downstairs. while they were all a little more expensive than raleigh, they were nowhere near double the cost. there's a subway in casino royale that used to have $5 footlongs just like every other subway. i don't eat a lot of fast food especially not in vegas but the golden arches still had a $1 menu...

the most i've paid in 4 trips to LV for a sandwich was like $14 and that was for a giant reuben sandwich from canter's in treasure island http://www.treasureisland.com/restaurants/canters_delicatessen.php

^I was in Vegas in August and ate at that very McDonalds for some late night drunk food. I can confirm it has a dollar menu and was only slightly more than it is here. So, yeah, paying $12 at Subway is highway robbery.

Agreed on the last few posts. All fast food I ate (and sadly, it was a decent amount) when I was recently there for 5 nights, was only slightly (10% maybe) more expensive than Raleigh.

A: Late night drunk B: Lazy eating in the hotel

I'm combining fast food with quick-food-service place like chipotle.

Anytime I wasn't splurging on a nice meal I could be found right there in that very food court. That cinnabon made me sick though. I don't think I'll ever go to another cinnabon as long as I live.

Also, does Casino Royale always smell like vomit or did I just catch it at a bad time?

^^ It is worth the trip to rent the small jet to fly over it. It is not worth it to get on a 12 hour bus ride with a bunch of people IMO. You can see more from the jet and they'll fly you over hoover dam too that way.

fast food is expensive in a few locations and not in others... depends on how expensive the real estate is that you're dining at. Food is very reasonable overall if you know where to find good deals, though occasionally i splurge for one of those $300 type meals in the nice places too because vegas has great places to eat.

Ditto. And I'll add what I suggested on page 1, it's early but do the morning tour. You'll arrive at sunrise and sunrise over the Grand Canyon had some of the most spectacular colors.

We didn't do the Grand Canyon but we did Hoover Dam. Only about a 30 minute drive, and definitely worth it. That being said, temps were in the low 80's the whole week we were there. I am not sure we would have enjoyed the dam as much if it was 115.

I will say that if you are even slightly claustrophobic then you won't want to do any of the tours at the damn. They pack you into an elevator to take you down to the generators, and they pack that bitch so tight that you can't even move. Literally touching a bunch of strangers. I even joked how bad it would suck if the elevator got stuck halfway down.

I have a convention to go to that is at the sands expo attached to the venetian/palazoo

I stayed at Caesars last time...I was thinking I wanted to stay a bit closer but in a decent place...

but Caesars wanted about 400 more than last year.

Any suggestions or thoughts on the Rio, Tropicana or something else?

It depends on whether they keep the doors opened to the Strip. I went there once when they were keeping the doors closed and it smelled like something had died. Its a smaller casino than the others on the Strip so you don't get a lot of the ventilation that you get at the bigger casinos. I never notice how smokey casinos can be until I get off the casino floor and back into my room but at Casino Royale, you smell the smoke the second you walk in.

Its a lot better when the doors are opened to the Strip.

^ Asians love gambling because they are highly superstitious and they particularly love to gamble during "lucky" holidays. They LOVE pai gow and blackjack.

I'm at the Vegas airport right now about to head home. Spent 3 nights at the Aria.

It was definitely nice! We did lots of walking around and gambling at different places, but the Aria was one of the nicest/cleanest/newest looking places around.

I didnt have too much of a problem getting free drinks anywhere...even at the penny slots.

Drinks were fairly consistent at the $10/$15 Blackjack and roulette tables as well.

^^ heads up on that. My friend had $1k in cash in his wallet when he went through security at RDU. He left it in his pocket instead of putting it through the x-ray machine and got hassled like a motherfucker. But I mean seriously, most of the time your shit is just sitting there on the other side of the scanner waiting on you to walk through the x-ray machine. I can't blame him for keeping it on him.

I put my wallet in my backpack right before the scan.
I also make sure to bring 100s so it isn't as obvious I'm carrying a boatload of cash.

I wouldn't trust leaving that kind of cash even in my backpack. I mean, if you get pulled aside for a random search, your shit could just sit there for several minutes. Easy pickins for would-be thieves.

Good point, I guess. Either way it's a pretty vulnerable situation. Fortunately there was a Wells Fargo ATM in the Vegas Airport, so I was able to get out my cash when I got there versus taking it with me. (I researched that before I left)

Also, there are BOA ATMs all over the place out there, so if you bank with them don't bother traveling with cash. My friend banks with BOA and was kicking himself for not just waiting until he got to Vegas.

Yeah, I happened to have plenty of cash on hand from poker play, plus I didn't want to deal with the fees, but I suppose if you're that worried you could just hit up the atm. FYI the places on the strip only give $20 cash back if you were going to go that route.

Oh I definitely recommend getting your cash before you hit the casinos. The ATMs in the casinos kill you with fees, then your bank will tack on even more. Cheapest ATM fee I saw was on Fremont St, and it was $3. My bank tacked on another $2

I'm currently on the plane to Vegas posting this.

I'm bored out of my mind and hate flying so I paid the 12 dollars for internet which goes pretty slow so all I can really do is read this website.

Someone tell me something awesome to do while I'm there, I've been once before. I mostly plan to do 20 hour poker sessions, and I have to go see Ray Ramano(sp?) tomorrow night(not my choice).

Comfortable seating and games on big screens definitely. Every sportsbook I went to, with the exception of 1, DID NOT have free alcohol and food. If you are looking for that, or at least cheap, go to Las Vegas Hilton. They had $1 Coors Lite and hot dogs, plus other good food for like $2. After we were there for about an hour a guy gave us all bracelets for free drinks and food.

If you are a smoker though, the upside is that you can smoke inside all the casinos and restaurants there. (which really sucked for me as a non-smoker)

^ all of the shows are WAY overpriced, imo. We went to David Copperfield, but only because I didn't pay for it. You can find some half-price deals at a lot of the casinos if you agree to do a time-share tour.

Yeah like I said, show isn't my choice but small price to pay to get the rest of the time to do whatever I want.

I'm looking forward to hitting up a sports book on Saturday and some of Sunday and betting/watching games. I'll probably do a few ridiculous parlay bets for like $5 and just hope to hit. I'll also def. throw some money on NC State game, which will certainly mean I'll lose an they will lose. But I'm not flying all the way to Vegas to not jinx us.

Hey cool dudes, I'm heading to Vegas in about a month for a bachelor party. I've already read through this thread and a few others so thanks already for all the info.

One question: What is the dress code like? I've never been before so my only real exposure is crap I've seen on TV and movies. Are you really expected to wear like a suit and shit? I'd imagine it would get very stuffy since it is so hot? Sidenote, I'm married so I have no intention of picking up ladies or anything like that.
