i have never paid more than $30 for a pair of jeans

i truly can't imagine what the difference it...it certainly isn't durability, as my levi's have lasted for 5 or 6 years

Anyone bragging about their $30 needs to post pictures of themselves in them and I'll be happy to explain why you should maybe spend a little more money

I'll gladly pay $100-$130 dollars for a few pairs of nice jeans that fit really well and I can wear out on certain occasions. People do notice one who dresses well. However...

I seriously doubt that anyone is going to see you out in public and tell the difference between $130 pair of jeans and $300 dollar jeans. The only person who will know and/or care is you. It's narcissistic and it makes the wearer an asshole.

Are white sneakers, long black leather jacket, and some type of fedora or top hat required for $30 jeans?

i'm not bragging so much as judging those who spend $285 on fucking JEANS

i don't need to impress anyone whatsoever...i'm married, have a good job, my friends aren't superficial dicks, and i don't crave the approval of strangers...what POSSIBLE reason would i have to spend $285 on pants?

and yes, i'll go ahead and admit to being someone who was defending the wearing of cargo shorts in one of the many other threads

I'm just pointing out, by being sarcastic and flipping the situation, that the only people who are judging and looking down on people are the ones who buy cheap jeans. I may have some jeans this expensive, I have no idea. I do buy nice jeans, but I purchase based on look and fit and not cost. I definitely do not notice brands of jeans other people wear, although I do sometimes (and I suspect women do often) notice when someone's jeans look dumb or fit terrible. It's has nothing to do with cost, some of the dumbest looking jeans are very expensive and are worn with very dumb looking expensive t shirts by 40-something wanna be rockers who are trying to hard.

I don't own any Raleigh Denim jeans but I don't find the price outrageous for handmade jeans and am happy that a fellow State alumn and Raleigh downtowner is doing well.

and i maintain that as i am not gay, do not know you, do not care about your opinion, and am already married and not looking to snag some superficial cunt for a fling...$30 jeans that are comfortable, durable, and look good to people who don't feel the need to dwell on clothing are perfect

note that i'm not judging YOU for spending hundreds of dollars on pants...but the very idea that the cost of jeans determines their quality is just stupid (because i know you're not being so dense to imply that a high cost ALWAYS means a better product)

my levis look perfectly fine...they fit well, they're super comfortable, they last forever, and they're $30...i just can't come up with a good reason why spending more money on the same thing, just so i can brag about it, is a good idea

i should note that i don't know what the jeans originally cost...i have no reason to buy jeans on a regular basis because mine last forever, so i wait for a sale and print whatever coupon i can find

I kind of want to post links to classic men's leather shoes and boots (like... I don't know, Allen Edmonds and Alden to start) and watch those get clawed to death too for being stupid and priced to sell to idiots.

I'm married, but I do want to dress well and look good. I don't think thats shallow, I think it's part of feeling good and being confident. I also want to look nice for the wife and not be a slob. I don't care if she sees me in ratty sweats around the house, but if I'm out with her I'm wearing jeans that fit and look good and don't have pockets on the knees or loops for tools I'm not carrying

that's the difference between us, i suppose...i don't derive a feeling of self-worth and confidence from my clothes

Quote :
"I also want to look nice for the wife and not be a slob."

and THIS is why you sound like a tool...this statement implies that NOT buying expensive jeans means you DON'T look nice and ARE a slob

it's absolutely retarded to say that $30 jeans fit no one and never look good...if they were so awful, no one would buy them

Quote :
"I don't care if she sees me in ratty sweats around the house, but if I'm out with her I'm wearing jeans that fit and look good and don't have pockets on the knees or loops for tools I'm not carrying"

did a single person say that cargo jeans (or carpenter pants or whatever you want to call them) look good?

we aren't comparing two STYLES of pants, we're comparing expensive jeans versus inexpensive jeans

i absolutely love my cargo shorts...i carry a knife, wallet, phone, and keys virtually everywhere i go and i loathe sitting on my wallet and phone (can't put them in the front pockets because those are occupied by a knife/change/misc in one and keys in the other), so having pockets on the side are awesome

the same argument could be made for cargo pants, but i don't wear those because i don't think they look good...that said, i don't judge people for losers who DO wear them because, well, i'm not a superficial dickbag

Quote :
"really hope that the people bitching about the price of Raleigh Denim jeans all own cars that are ridiculously cheap/not durable"

i drive a saturn...it's ugly and cheap, but it's ridiculously reliable

Quote :
"heaven forbid people buy a product that is local/handmade/custom"

you are completely missing the point (mine, at least)...i don't care a fig for what OTHER people buy...i don't judge them for buying what they do, but i judge them for being condescending to others for not conforming to their opinion of what's fashionably acceptable and what's not

i have so many better things to do with my $285...if buying a single pair of jeans is the best thing you can think of, good for you...rock 'em and sleep well knowing that you're happy with your purchase

i get your point, but the thing is that those three things are good to SOMEONE or they wouldn't make any money and as such, wouldn't exist

do i agree with those three examples? yes...but the equivalents you're advocating are:

filet mignon/sam adams utopia/box seats at the symphony

in any case, $30 (and that's on sale with a coupon, as i noted...maybe $50 is the regular price?) isn't bottom-of-the-barrel in terms of jeans (i know for a fact that wally world sells some for $15/pair)

^I don't think anyone in this thread has once said that $30-$50 jeans aren't more than adequate for most people. Just some people prefer the "buy it for life" approach to pretty much all major personal products. I'm not that way with jeans either (I wear relatively cheap Levis) but I am with, say, boots and shoes.

I don't know, this thread is just going to keep on tumbling in the "lawl you're stupid" "haha you buy stuff from Wal-Mart" direction. Beasley's Chicken 2.0 thread.

you're right, no one said they weren't "adequate"...dtownral, however, is obviously a clothing snob and has a dickbag condescending attitude towards those who don't spend a lot of money on their pants

so what's the magical cut-off price at which anything below must be inherently inferior due to their "low price"? $100? $150? it's a dumb argument that the price of something automatically determines its quality

i can't imagine believing something so stupid

nobody is trying to make this argument

you have to realize that there is a difference between the quality of a product that is both hand and custom made and one that isn't

My favorite pair of jeans that I probably wear ten to one to any other pair of jeans I have is a $300 pair of Sevens. The fit is perfect, the fabric is glorious. Most of my other Sevens are ones I've gotten substantially cheaper at Nordstrom Rack for around $60-100, but just don't have the fit or feel of the flagship pair I prefer to wear. Also, the quality has been so much better than any other brand I've worn in the past fourteen years.

quagmire02 has the perfect life. Great job, a dog that takes care of itself (and probably makes him breakfast in bed), he found the perfect pair of jeans that are as comfortable and look as good as a $200 pair of jeans, his wife lets him go out dressed like a hobo...all while driving a POS Saturn.

We should all strive for this life.

My favorite pair of jeans is a pair of Sevens I got from TJ Maxx for $20. I'm sure they were originally upwards of $100, and for the quality, that would still be well worth it to me.

I have tried on a pair of Raleigh Denim and man, if I had unlimited disposable income, I'd buy a pair. They're the best fitting jeans I've ever tried on and they look amazing on as well. But since I scoff at the idea of spending a $500 deductible to get my car fixed, I'm not in the income bracket these jeans are designed for
