Tcheng...I did think of doing an HHO setup way back when I was living in Bath and driving up here to see my girlfriend a couple of times a week. Never finished it though. I moved up here instead and found the end result to be far more costly.

"He didn't mention gas mileage or power as his concern with the e39, he mentioned the engine. The 530 has a bullet proof engine and while slower, enjoys the same driving dynamics as the 540.

(^thats partly because no one wants the 545 e60 for reliability issues. When I was e60 shopping and decided I didn't want to mess with it and leased an f10)"

I6 is reliable but does have it shares of gremlins, just like M62. Both are stout. Cooling system is awful on both. Wasn't aware of 545i had reliability issues engine wise? What issues did you read about?

^M54 I6's are junk. I had one. I had to replace the coolant hoses, pump, thermostat, reservoir, all coils, crank sensor and the pcv valve. I didn't have to any VANOS adjustments or replace the seals, but many do.

An additional joy of owning an e39 is a frozen solid brake booster in the cold. It will freeze because the geniuses of Bavaria put the damn thing in a metal box with a drain hole the size of a needle. They also positioned it so rainwater will fill it if there are any leaves in the gutter area below the windshield. Eventually the lower seals of the brake booster will erode and water will leak in. It didn't happen to me, but if you're extra lucky you might even suck some water into the engine in that vacuum line.

Other expected "wear items" include your ABS control unit, MID (info display) in the center console, odometer/trip pixel panel and power steering lines. Oh and the self-leveling headlights have an internal component made of brittle plastic that is a pain in the ass to repair or expensive to replace - if you don't want your fancy headlights aimed at the ground.

Luckily they fixed the brake booster issue in the e60 by adding an early warning system (it will dump water into the cabin before it hits the booster )

but hey, it can last 100k miles before any of that happens, so it's still reliable as fuck according to magazines and crap

cooling system takes 3 hr to change. PCV valve problems are certainly better than rod knock, blown transmissions etc. There is no perfect car and overall that engine is very fucking reliable. Yes, any BMW will nickel and dime you, but at least it you will not be shelling out 5k for new engine or tranny. Even this 335i that I keep complaining about has relatively reliable engine. Costo of fuel pump, injectors, waste gate rattle, walnut shelling BS is all nothing in comparison if i have a blown engine.

540i is not I-6 which I was referring to.

I had 200k on my E39 M5 with no issues. Neither of our examples represent majority.

move downtown and get a bicycle. clearly part of your problem is you let shitty american consumer culture fuck you up. u got financial problems and you're thinking about getting a car?

credit is for buying shit you cant afford, nobody needs it. everything noble u could borrow for; home, education, health service, all has special subsidized sources for borrowing at 0% interest.

that said: get you a old early 90's 240sx or miata. drifts like a champ fresh out the classifieds and can be rode hard and put up muddy.

With all the damage that Sandy has caused to people's vehicles, is there going to be a shortage of used cars and even higher market prices? I ask because I'm semi in the market for a car but thinking of biting the bullet early if this is going to be the case.

Volvo wagons are awesome, I've had my 99 V70 for 5 years and it's still running like a champ at 145k miles. You really can fit a ton in them too with the middle seats down, I've moved a set of patio furniture, bookcase, etc.

Almost the exact same car. It didn't really change any until 2001.

After fixing a couple of screamingly obvious boost leaks, it appears this moflucka got some power. Well, to put it in perspective, 222 hp in a kinderhauler. I'm kind of digging it. And at WOT, that five just sounds...well...interesting. In a very good way.

I've wanted one of these things for years. I regret not doing this sooner.

Mine is pretty weaksauce as I got the base level non-turbo model, but I don't care about speed so no turbo is one less thing to fix down the road. As an experienced volvo owner: is your check engine light on yet?

I want to see pic of the Volvo. Btw, "Volvere" is the infinitive form of the verb "roll" in Latin. In its first person singular form, the verb "volvere" becomes "volvo", i.e. "I roll".

Of course the check engine light is on. But it's a 95. So I don't have to pass OBDII. Fuck it.
