Who would I rather listen to? RHCP. Hands town. I love Nirvana, but enjoy RHCP way more.

speaking of MTV, it's estimated that Smells Like Teen Spirit was played on MTV 20,000 times in the span of 6 months

LOL @ Nirvana fans who think that anyone who ranks another band above Nirvana is a dumbshit who doesn't know anything about music.

Fuck Nirvana...I'd rather listen to Nickelback!

Also:

The entire song is about how the music industry from the producers, agents, etc tried to rape them and take away all of their liberties before releasing their follow-up album."

Give me a fucking break..."the music industry stifled my creative outlet", boo fucking hoo. That shit's not deep, it's just dumb.

I cant talk about this"

lol, perhaps I got a bit carried away...

My point was that too many Nirvana fans act like anyone who doesn't think Nirvana is the greatest band of all time is a moron. (paging Synapse!)

Nirvana was ok, but I can name dozens of bands I'd rather listen to...

rape me isnt remotely lame its an awesome song.

But thats okay if you dont like it.

Listen to Aeroplane spiked with pain and then follow it up with Very Ape and let me know which is a better song.

This is honestly the most embarrassing musical conversation ive ever seen. Feel free to be a loser on your own time, but seriously I've never heard anyone refer to them as the "RHCP" before late 11/20/2012.

Red hot chili peppers will be remembered for participating in MTV Rock and Jock contests and doing the Sock on the Cock routine and that's it.

The other will have fans 80 years from now.

Next let's have a serious argument about Sarah McLaughlin and Janis Joplin.

Oh come on, Aeroplane was on their shittiest album. That's like saying "...just listen to Floyd the Barber and then follow it up with Blood Sugar Sex Magik..."

...but that's really beside the point; I'm not trying to compare the two bands--I like them both. I'm just saying that hating on RHCP is stupid, especially if you're talking about BSSM and earlier, because they did some cool shit.

Yeah but Under the Bridge became a hit song that too many people liked so I had to give up RHCP. If too many people like something I automatically hate it.

Yea, they pioneered that shit. Nirvana played the way a lot of kids felt, so they got appropriately famous. To say it represents a higher degree of artistry or creativity, though, is a fucking stretch.

I liked both in high school

15+ years later, I still like Nirvana but would can't bring myself to listen to RHCP

Winner = Nirvana

Blood Sugar Sex Magik was a great album. Unfortunately RHCP would go on to write Californication, By the Way, Otherside, Aeroplane, Scar Tissue (that song makes me want to punch babies), and others that are akin to listening to the Heeeeeeeeeeeeeendrick commercial, they grate on the nerves. After those songs and all the airplay they received listening to Anthony Kiedis is like nails on a chalkboard to me now.

So Nirvana.

I happen to like "One Hot Minute". Too bad they don't play any of those songs live anymore.

With that said, Nirvana > RHCP

?

I was there with you, and while you told me before they went on stage that the lead singer was female, the lead singer was definitely a male.

I find this thread pretty funny, mainly b/c about a year ago I randomly got in a drunken argument about this very thing.

And for me, personally, Nirvana > RHCP

Nice straw man brah! I will say your Foo Fighters got more votes than expected in the last thread, but ya still lost!!!

jcg15 and I had a disagreement on this point last night, and I figured tdub would support my case, which it has. So thanks to all parties involved.

I don't see the point in comparing. Nirvana was great, but they didn't get 30 years to develop and evolve their music into directions that some fans would certainly hate. The music isn't even similar. Which is better; Terminator or The Breakfast Club? Apples to oranges.

Nirvana is alright to me, maybe I'm missing the nostalgia factor that's hitting home for some of you, but the majority of their catalogue is depressing as hell. Kinda like alice in chains

But now that I think about it, some of you people probably had lonely, depressing lives in the early 90s, while the rest of us "frat boy types" were out having fun or whatever stereotype you wanna put on chili peppers fans

I guess you have to be a bit older than I am to 'get' them

I was in elementary school when Kurt Cobain killed himself. Even then, I knew the world had lost a really talented artist and I was like 10
