There is definitely a middle ground that is way better and more fun than either of the options you've presented here.

If drinking "gets less fun," then it can't be "much better."

I have 2 fingers of bourbon almost every day after work, but I feel hungover if I drink any more than that. During football season I'll probably drink about 6 beers over an entire weekend, but none during the rest of the year.

so 6 beers times 8 home games = 48 beers for the year and not a single one more?

I'm diabetic, I'm not even supposed to have those 48 beers.

(also, if my wife asks, I drink 1 beer saturday and 1 on sunday and that's it)

taking stock of the last few months it's been pretty consistent

mon: 2-3 beers/wine with other travelers on my team
tues: pitchers of mixed drinks at team dinner
wed: a few beers/wine + a few scotches/cognacs with friends
thurs: airport beer + plane liquor
fri-sun: a few drinks depending on what's going on that weekend

time to give it a rest

For like parties and stuff on the weekends, 9-12 beers, sometimes more

I don't drink too much during the week but now that I have a kegerator in the garage, it's hard not to pour a couple when football is on. Like tonight.

yeah. maybe during basketball season, but any other situation i'm drinking some kind of low or zero carb liquor. some beer isn't that bad, but you would be amazed how many carbs are in some beers.

I drink plenty of beer, but never before the evening, except I'll probably drink like 12 on Sunday and watch NFL all day
