I understood the sentiment, to each their own.
Maybe it gets a facepalm because of Wolverine's brief cameo in First Class? Anyway... after X-3 and Origins: Wolverine (they were absolutely terrible) First Class was a much needed breath of fresh air. 11/2/2013 9:14:24 AM |

Yeah, I'm a little annoyed that Wolverine's at the center of this one. But according to wikipedia, the two Wolverine movies pulled in more money than X-Men: First Class. So there ya go. 11/2/2013 2:41:00 PM |

Apocalypse is not involved in Days of Future Past
You're thinking of Age of Apocalypse, and the comics are fucking awesome. (dystopian alternate history level shit) They have it in one massive volume or four compilations. If you are interested, you probably should start at pt 2 of the compilation http://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Complete-Apocalypse-Epic-Book/dp/0785118748/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383437967&sr=8-1&keywords=complete+age+of+apocalypse
(pt 1 is actually stuff that was published at the end of the event) ] 11/2/2013 8:20:56 PM |

Here's the thing about there not being enough Kitty Pryde for me personally...
I appreciate when the adapted story takes a different direction than the books. Now I don't necessarily want $Wolverine$ in everything because that's too obvious but I do like that I'm paying to be entertained by something I didn't just expect already.
I think the 90s cartoon might have been the first time I really got into time travel because of Bishop/Cable (maybe aside from back to the future and terminator). I also enjoyed Marvel's alternate timelines that were being published at the time like the whole "What if" series and Age of Apocalypse. One of my favorite "What If's" was what would happen if Wolverine escaped the Weapon X program and then had to fight the mutant who took his place and actually became Weapon X.
If they find some way to make the time travel here very interesting then I think I'll enjoy it still. I'm interested to see who goes back (if it's just Logan), what he's sent back to do, how he does it, and how it changes things (and why the hell Bishop even shows up). My guess is that Logan's first time travel operation is a fuckup and Bishop goes back, not to the present (Patrick Stewart/Ian McKellan), but to Logan's first arrival in the past (McAvoy/Fassbender) and realters the alter.

Here's my speculation (along with rumored/confirmed plot points) as to how this ish is gonna go down:
We start out in the apocalyptic future overrun by Sentinels and get our explanation as to how the cure didn't work and how Xavier is now alive and how this timeline came to be.
We then intro the time travel mission with Kitty sending Wolverine's conscious back to his 70's self so he can prevent Mystique (who has departed Magneto's group) from assassinating an individual which is the event that sets into motion the reason behind the future timeline.
From there we go back and forth from the 70's plot to the future.
I'd venture to believe we will see the deaths of the main surviving X-Men during most of these future scenes (recall the panel from the original comic where Storm is impaled), along with a mission by Magneto, Charles & Iceman to rescue Rogue from the former X-Mansion which has been turned into a sort of concentration camp/prison. The reasoning for this being that Kitty becomes weak/something happens and there is an imminent risk that she will not be able to keep up whatever she's doing to keep Logan's mind in his past body, and need Rogue to absorb her power to keep it up.
From there we go back to the 70's and Wolverine manages to get Charles and Erik to team up to stop Mystique.
Other stuff happens I'm sure but ends with them successfully preventing the event that would've lead to the apocalyptic future.
Wolverine wakes up in the mansion in the now reset timeline where Charles and Erik work together at the school, and we have cameos from Scott and Jean showing that that not only X3 never happened, but most of the entire continuity from X1 on is different/didn't occur.

Oh man, that is stupid about Beast. One of things I really like about the Beast character is that even though he looks like a hulking animal all the time he is usually the complete opposite in personality. I was gonna ask why he was always blue and fuzzy in X-Men 3 but then I remembered that even though all of the X-men movies (Including the two Wolverine movies) are supposed to be in the same universe there are so many inconsistencies already, who cares. 4/16/2014 2:14:02 PM |

^^That isn't the type of inconsistency I'm talking about. Recasting isn't an inconsistency since it doesn't change the actual character in the movies. I'm talking about stuff like Emma Frost being in both X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men: First Class yet she has no memory of one happening in the other or Professor X being childhood friends and growing up with Mystique in X-Men: First Class but not even acknowledging her in any of the first three X-Men films. There are tons more plot holes that are just as big.

they weren't doing same thing as the marvel avengers movies where there was a plan. They just made movies and just now are bullshitting everyone in making it one universe. I dont know why people still question it. the only thing consistent is Hugh Jackman. Of course the emma frosts are different, they are two different movies and they didn't plan ahead like that.
Shit in the comic books hardly anything is consistent and they have major plot holes that writers eventually make up bullshit to fill it in. And people buy into it.
it's a comics book movie [/troll] 4/16/2014 6:32:32 PM |

Great movie! On par with First Class. Michael Fassbender stole the show though in my opinion, he did a great job and Magneto was a badass. Peter Dinklage did a fantastic job. btw, stay for the credits, there is a scene at the end.
Minor Spoilers Ahead:
I only wish that some of the lesser known mutants like Blink and Bishop had more screen time fighting sentinels. Also, lol at Rogue being in it for only like 5 seconds. My only issue was that there were so many continuity issues...
How did Professor X get his body back? He was disintegrated by Jean in X3. The post credits scene showed that he had transferred his mind to someone but nothing else was mentioned.
How did Magneto get his powers back? Once again at the end of X3 it showed him slightly move the chess piece but it could have at least said something about it.
How did Wolverine get his adamantium claws back? In The Wolverine (which is obviously right before the events of Days of Future Past), Silver Samurai cuts the adamantium ones off and in the post credit scene it shows that his bone ones have grown back. I suppose Magneto could have put them back on but still, they should have mentioned something.
When did Shadowcat get the ability to transfer people's consciousness to the past? Never even mentioned before. I don't even know why they used her character for this when it would be perfectly understandable to for Professor X to do it since he's well known to have crazy mental powers.
When/how did future Professor X and future Magneto find out about the Sentinels and form an alliance? Obviously at the end of X3, Professor X was dead (or at least in someone elses body) and Magneto was powerless (or at least barely getting his powers back) yet in the post credits scene of The Wolverine they came to recruit Wolverine for the events of this movie. How did that happen? How did they know of the impending war?
Why did they even need Wolverine so badly for the war? Days of Future Past (at least the future part) took place like 10 years after the events of The Wolverine, so even though they recruited him to help out he did like nothing in those 10 years to stop the rise of the Sentinels.
The good news is that they pretty much retconned everything that happened in X-Men 3 and its good that Jean and Cyclops are back. I'm also pleased with Apocalypse's introduction at the end of the credits. 5/23/2014 2:47:40 AM |

I really enjoyed it but you definitely don't want to think too much into some of the timeline issues. You could pick it apart if you wanted to. If you can get past those issues, it looks like X3 has been completely negated and there's somewhere for the franchise to go in the future. I think it's interesting that now the general population knows about mutants way before they did in the previous timeline. So I would expect the next several X-men movies to be set in previous timelines instead of the present. Apocalypse is going to be in the 80s 5/26/2014 6:14:52 PM |

Spoilers:
Was this really a retcon though? Maybe I misunderstand what it means, but I assume it involves a change without any explanation (ie, Trask was a large black man in The Last Stand). Cyclops doesnt appear until after Wolverine makes it back to the "present", and Wolverine is obviously surprised that both he and Jean are alive. The fact that they both died didnt change; however, the ripple resulting from the timeline changes in 1973 resulted in their deaths never occuring (same as how all of those that died in the future were alive and well at the end).
Quote : | "Also, why doesn't he remember both his original timeline and the years after he was pulled out of the water? o.O?" |
Marty McFly didnt remember the new timeline where his father was a confident best-selling author and Biff was his dads bitch.
The scene at the end of The Wolverine doesnt seem to actually lineup with this movie in any way though...it gave us a status update on Xavier and Magneto, but no reason for why they were meeting Wolverine in the first place.5/26/2014 9:14:48 PM |

Why would Mystique pulling Wolverine out of the water at the end mean that he's definitely getting the adamantium?
If it had actually been Stryker to pull him out than I would say yeah, he's basically just going down the same path as he was in Origins
Overall, I buy that Stryker saw him in this movie, and therefore noted he would be a good candidate for his team and experiments in the future, and therefore he will probably get the adamantium eventually despite a new/different timeline
(Just to clarify, I only know of the movie story lines...if Mystique is involved with his adamantium in the comics than I understand). 5/27/2014 9:35:15 AM |
