Well, I can't tell the difference without being personal...I don't care what people think of what I came from so here it is:
This might be it...i don't know. My older brother and I were physically abused and my little sister didn't get any of it until she was 14/15, when I went to college, she started dating a pothead, having sex, and running her mouth to my explosive father. My younger brother could be because my mom left my dad so much and had him living in different places and in and out of schools. He grew up without a dad, basically.
What is worse, having a father around but absent in all ways but physical abuse or being completely without a dad? I don't know what the correct answer is.
My older brother and I definitely had some tremendous fear of consequence introduced at a young age. I don't think my younger siblings had that privilege. There is a lot that can be analyzed about us so I can't pinpoint just one thing. It was definitely not money. They had more money with the younger kids than when my older brother and I were there. We were so poor that we often went without food for a couple of days until my grandparents would bring us some. My dad hates to work so that could be why my mom finally left him and his explosive bratty tantrums (grown men with tantrums can be scary.)
I am sure people have had worse so I am not wanting any sympathy. I, too, would like to know what actually went wrong.
Did I forget to mention, I love all these people. Maybe that is what is wrong with me?

I think your head is in the right place. Besides most people area afraid to admit or verbalize their family problems. I know a few of people in similar situations. Shit sucks but you don't get to chose your family, and theres not much you can do other than try to love and try to understand them.
My mom always told me "You have to love them but you don't have to like them" and I try to live by that.

^^not supporting family members who don't have anyone else is pretty shitty IMO. People make mistakes. I'm not saying you have to give money to them or you have to do anything but writing off family members is probably the shittiest thing you can do as a person. Holding grudges / turning your back on people won't really make you feel any better.

I have never heard of violent "pass-the-blunt" situations

Everyone's situation is different, but I think I turned out just fine growing up without a father. To me, the former is clearly worse.
I'm glad your sister is out and I hope she can get her shit together! 12/29/2012 8:56:39 AM

the pass-the-blunt situation is that my brother is used to people sharing their weed. He was so high on this really good weed and he was staring at this one guy to take a puff and pass it but the guy didn't want to share his weed. So my VERY high brother just stared blankly at the guy so much that he pulled out his glock, put the end of the barrel in between his eyes and asked him what the fuck his problem was, if he was gay, and if he wanted to stare some more. My BIL pushed the gun away from his face, got in between the gun and my brother and told the guy to back the fuck off. Very scary situation. Also, I know the guy that held the gun and he is a crazy mother fucker. I for one would not ever hang out in the Johnsonville area of Harnett County. He went and sat out in the car until my BIL was done hanging out. He told my brother he is never coming with him again.] 12/29/2012 12:29:34 PM
