http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/fisherman-killed-beaver-belarus-article-1.1314673

Quote :
"A fisherman was savaged to death by a beaver after going up close to try and take its picture.
The man, visiting from the city of Brest, who has not been named, was viciously attacked during a trip with two friends at Lake Shestakov in Belarus.

Sky News reports he spotted the animal at the side of the road and decided to take its photograph.
But the beaver pounced, sinking its pointed fangs into his thigh — which severed a main artery and caused him to bleed to death.

The man's friends tried to stem the flow of blood but it was no use.
Experts say beaver attacks are rare, and that the ones that do attack humans are usually rabid.

"

Be safe and watch out for beaver while fishing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancetfish? Ugly ass fish whatever it is.

Quote :
"Lancetfishes are large oceanic predatory fishes in the genus Alepisaurus ("Scaleless lizard"), the only living genus in the family Alepisauridae.[2]

Lancetfishes grow up to 2 metres (6.6 ft) in length. Very little is known about their biology, even though they are widely distributed in all oceans, except the polar seas.[3] Specimens have been recorded as far north as Greenland.[4] They are often caught as by-catch for vessels long-lining for tuna."

Going to the surf today. High tide is in about an hour, so I'll be doing a lot of fishing on a falling tide. Generally I don't like it, don't catch as many fish on a falling tide. But I know some people who swear by the falling tide.
I guess I'm mostly just going to get out of the house and get some sun and to fish.

Just got one bluefish off a sandflea. It's sitting in the freezer right now...I'm too drunk to mess with grilling it up tonight. We were drinking on the beach all day...and I just got home to shower and get ready and then we're going to head to Jack's tonight and get fairly intoxicated tonight. It's one of those days where all the stars aligned and everyone is my circle of friends is in the mood to get trashed.

Anyone know a good place in the area with a fairly clean bank to take my fiance and four year old fishing? I used to have a pond at my old apartment but have since moved. I generally dont mind working around trees and stuff but to get both of them to enjoy it would prefer a nice clean bank. I live up capital blvd so anywhere that side of town would be best.

Got a chance to head down to the beach this thursday to fish. Need some opinions on where I should go. I usually go somewhere requiring 4 wheel drive but I don't have access to the truck so I need to either go to a pier (I've heard good things coming out of the Topsail Island Surf City Pier and may head there). But I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere else I could drive a car and park (i'm not afraid to walk a little ways) where I may have some luck.

Any jetties, inlets, good parts of the lower Cape fear or ICW areas that I can get to without 4x4?

Would I be better off on the pier? Any advice or opinions or links to other message boards where I could get more info would be greatly appreciated!!

What about around Snow's Cut in Carolina Beach?

so i moved to wilmington and i've never fished down here. finally brought my boat back from the place i kept it up on the Bay River. the trout fishing seems to be a little different than what i'm used to up on the Neuse, Bay, and Pamlico rivers. if someone down this way was willing to introduce me to the inshore fishing anywhere between Wilmington and Southport, i'd be glad to take my truck and boat and burn my gas. i don't really even know where to start.

[Edited on May 21, 2013 at 7:19 PM. Reason : i don't even know where the boat ramps are]

and i'm talking real fishing. not riding around burning gas, drinking beer, dicking around on an island, and wetting a line for 20 minutes.

it's a 17' Key West center console with a 115 yamaha 2-smoke, a 24v Minn-Kota Riptide w/ I-Pilot, and a Lowrance HDS-7. i'll also be robbing the Minn-Kota Talon off my dad's boat soon.

ha down in my area now. Haven't done much inshore fishing but there should be 3 ramps in Carolina Beach: 1) Carolina Beach State park (to the right as you cross Snow's Cut) is good assuming you don't want to leave early as it's gated. Hours on their website list 8am-10pm for May-August. Think it's like $6/day or so to use it but it's usually less crowded and has easy access to the Cape Fear river and ICW. 2) Snows Cut Wildlife Ramp (to the left as you cross the bridge) Haven't been there since they redid it but but it looks nice. 3) Fort Fisher near the ferry. If you're looking near Southport, most I know use the ramp off of Fish Factory Rd (Dutchman Creek Park).

Nothing earth shattering but I caught this one and few others about this size. Not a bad afternoon on a lake bank.

^^ That's the private boat ramp at the park

There is a free NCWRC boat ramp on snows cut by the bridge. I think there are four ramps there. You can put in there an hit up CB inlet, Masonboro Island, or go through snows cut to the Cape Fear River and head south to Southport or North to Wilmington. The ramp down at Fort Fisher is nice, but it's really shallow back there unless you know all the creeks and sloughs. You can acces the buzzards bay area from the lower cape fear by boat (between ft fisher and baldhead). Lots of drum, flounder and trout back there. Spanish and blues are biting really well at all the usual nearshore spots. I'm heading out tomorrow evening to try my luck with the spaniards and will post up a report.

yeah park closed = no boat ramp. You'd think they'd open a bit earlier though. Most reports tend to agree with the puppy drum and flounder around the creeks near bald head and southport but the trout seem to be hit or miss. First kings of the year on the Oak Island piers were caught last week but haven't heard much about the spanish this year. Weather seems to have been a crap shoot lately though.

And @NRR, I'm usually down that way once or twice a month on the weekends so I'll see what you're up to one weekend.

Wonder where that great white is now
