back seat is staying, cage is getting painted red to match the original interior.
trying to leave it as stock ish as possible, and the seats will eventually get recovered something that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. 2/7/2013 5:02:53 PM |

I'm like you dumbass, the only thing you don't have orderd for the fe engine is cam and that's cause I can't decide how nasty it should be lol. 2/26/2013 7:16:09 AM |

385 engines have no personality.

Since you have an obsessive personality and maybe some time on your hands, you should calculate and develop a custom cam for your car.

awesome read and helps out a lot... but it doesn't really mention what the valve size/ engine size ratio that allows for a narrower separation angle is...
I need equations if i'm going to design my own...
I mean my heads have pretty big valves but nothing like what a 4 valve engine would have... I'm sitting here more debating solid roller vs hydro and how much i wanna rebuild the top end 2/26/2013 11:17:13 AM |
y0willy0 All American 7863 Posts user info edit post |
seems like the article mentions once you past 500ci (or approach it) engines can eat pretty much any cam for breakfast.
at the same time most big american v8s are undervalved by default just because they tend to have 16 total. even with massive aftermarket ones it doesnt matter.
i think there is enough info there for you to make a decision.
also ive called comp cams on many occasions and discussed with them EXACTLY what i needed and after they ask a million questions about the motor build they have what i need.
also i would advise hydro roller just by the nature of FE heads/intake. if you do solid and decide to change the intake or anything like that in the future remember, the pushrods run through it.
youll end up having to disassemble everything and then readjust all the valves for something unrelated.

Trying to get a list of equipment needed for a car to pass tech running a 9.98 during anything other than test & tune night on the 1/4
#1 license #2 Cage #3 5 pt Harness #3 remote battery disconnect? #4 is a fuel cell required?
At what point is stuff like fire suit/ neck brace etc required just wondering...
Don't get me wrong... this is a future goal nothing we'll have to worry about in the present i'm just thinking ahead so i don't have to do stuff twice if i want to go there with NAWS (lol never) or boost. ( might be relocating the battery, replacing fuel tank etc.)

yes, yes, yes.
the dash will be staying the same just with no dash pad. doors carpet and ceiling too.
I'm really stuck on seating... i'd rather drive in a bucket but if i get the bench re-done... this thing will be like a show car with a cage. If i do the buckets i'll probably have them re-covered to match the stock interior...
If i do the bucket thing i'm going to have an audio place make console with cup holders that will have a regular modern radio in it. and speakers will be hidden throughout the car.

I've only seen Beards, Mastercrafts, Corbeau Bajas, etc in offroad rigs. Seems like an ok fit, but I don't know if it would look wonky in a street car or not.
It's a step up from a plastic RCI seat with a vinyl slip cover for sure. 4/10/2013 7:31:16 PM |

Maybe this is an odd idea, but do they have to be racing seats specifically? What about a nice, supportive seat from a driver's car that could be had in red leather? I know such things have been making a resurgence in recent years in cars like the Audi S5. I think BMW offered a red interior in either the 335 or the M3 at one point recently, didn't they?
Might be $Texas, might look funny, and certainly not lightweight, but it'd probably feel good. Though if you have to have a 5-point harness with your cage, probably wouldn't work. 4/11/2013 9:20:03 AM |
