Typical B4C. Says he likes the microbreweries, fails to mention Fullsteam or Horniblow's.
Although Fullsteam is totally bizarre to me. It's an indoor picnic area that has a bar. I don't want to hang out with someone's kids while drinking.

Most of my favorite bars have already been mentioned. However I will say that Isaac Hunter's used to be one of my favorite bars...until about 1 1/2 yrs ago when they decided to go after the DTSB crowd. Now they just play shitty music and pack the place out with drunk 22 yr olds 3/18/2013 9:07:30 AM |

The only drinkable beers were the Dunkel and Chocolate Stout, mostly because the dark malts masked the off-flavor. I will go back some time as I'm hoping I just went at a bad time and served a few bad batches." |
I found this on a review page. This pretty much sums up hosanna brewery. They all tasted the same, but I didn't mind the dark beers. They must have closed. They no longer have a facebook page, or web page.
Anyway, tonight I went to Aviator Smoke House, then The Brick Bar & Grill, and then Aviator Tap House with my family and friends. The Broad Street area is awesome. It is definitely one of the better bar areas in the Triangle. The Tap House and Brick both had bands playing, but they also have outdoor areas for when you just want to chill and talk with your friends.

too many bands at bars think that playing louder will cover up their shitty performance. I enjoy a piano bar or someone playing acoustic at a bar, but I hate having to yell at the person 2 feet away from me in order for them to hear me. 5/18/2014 12:00:45 PM |

I'm starting to wonder when craft brew eateries are going to reach market saturation. The owner of the company I work for wants to start one now. There's a freaking brewery in Clayton for God's sake. There's one in Apex, Holly Springs, Fuquay and Wake Forest.

I just saw this on Facebook. A guy traveled all the way from England to attempt to do the King Kong Burger Challenge at Aviator Smokehouse and he finished it in time. For those of you who don't know about it, you have to eat your entire meal and drink two pints of beer in under 30 minutes to win a t-shirt.

So I heard about another Fuquay micro brewery called Draft Line Brewing Company. They are celebrating their 1 year anniversary at the end of June. You can walk there from Aviator Tap House in under 5 minutes. Today I went there and they have good beer too. They are like Lone Rider and built a bar in their warehouse. They also have cable, foosball, ping pong, and a 5 foot tall connect 4 game. The Broad Street area in Fuquay is quite nice. They have a lot of nice bars now. Plus the parking isn't a pain in the ass like in Downtown Raleigh sometimes.

I went to Fainting Goat Brewery in Fuquay tonight. It is a nice atmosphere and their beer is ok, but it is very mild. Their pale ale isn't hoppy at all. All three Fuquay breweries are good, but if I only had time to go to one then I would pick Aviator. 12/11/2015 9:18:52 PM |

I'll take a crack at it. And just be aware that these are my opinions based on personal experiences. Others may have different experiences, a lot of this probably depends on the night you go...
Warehouse District:
Boxcar - arcade bar. pretty chill on weeknights, gets packed on weekends. usually a mix of college aged kids up to about 35 or so. Crank Arm - chill bar, diverse age groups, can get collegey on weekends. I think their beer is second only to Trophy but that's just me - many people won't agree with that. like most breweries, they allow dogs. they are also kid-friendly. Circa - love this place. kind of a 1920s speakeasy feel to it. it has 4-5 pool tables but I wouldn't call it a pool hall. more like a cocktail lounge with pool tables. very cool outdoor patio. decent selection of drafts and wines too. Vita Vite - new wine bar. not sure if it's open yet and have not been there. Legends - oldest gay bar in town. haven't been but have had straight friends go with their gay friends and said they had a good time, it's nice inside, and drinks are dirt cheap. Flex - another gay bar. don't know anything about it. Flying Saucer - tons of beers on draft, crowd is usually post-college aged. during the lunch hour you'll see a lot of attorneys and stuff there. pretty decent food. on Mondays there are tons of college kids there for the pint night. Brewmaster's - as of this morning they are confirmed closed. not hard to see why - they had no identity whatsoever. had decent sports bar food and a good amount of drafts, but the place felt dirty. Deep South - music bar. I haven't been in ages but they've had some decent acts come through there. Tasty Beverage - a good bottle shop with a small bar and a few beers on draft. pretty much set the standard for other operations like it (Patty O Beers, Crafty, Lincoln, State of Beer, etc.). Young professional crowd. State of Beer - another good bottle shop with a ~12 person bar in it. They have some light food too. Nice outdoor seating area. Young professional crowd. Berkeley Cafe - this was bought by Lisa, an old bartender from Mitch's Tavern and they also took the bar and menu from Sadlack's. Great food and cheap drinks for being downtown. they have live music most nights after 8pm. They sealed off the bigger stage area of years past, which is now a head shop next door. Very eclectic crowd. Older (40+ year old) regulars. Ugly Monkey - was fun back in 2007 or so but has turned into shit. it was a "party bar" and you'd find a whole mix of people, a lot of frats/sororities, etc. and girls dancing on the bar. no idea who patronizes it now. Has a couple pool tables. Five Star - Chinese restaurant by day, lounge bar by night. Haven't been in years and not sure what the crowd is like now at night. They do have pool tables upstairs. Boylan Brew Pub - fantastic skyline views and is popular when the weather is nice. pretty dead in the winter. I think their beer is terrible. Food is pretty good but pricey for what you get. college to young professional crowd mostly.12/15/2015 11:35:39 AM |

Salisbury St. Area
Ruby Deluxe - kind of a hidden bar. $10 membership fee (you can bring one guest per member). No beers on draft. definitely an alternative / indie kind of crowd. has two pool tables. pretty chill - I just became a member a week or so ago so I haven't seen it packed, but also haven't been late night. PBR special. Level Up - arcade bar. young professional type of crowd. really chill space, less machines than Boxcar but arguably a cooler environment. renovated historic walk-up. not the greatest beer selection. Capital Club 16 - cool French/German inspired cafe type of bar. A few drafts but the ones they have are good but pricey. Good food. young professional crowd. they have live music some nights. great for sitting outside and people watching. Neptunes - really cool dance bar. not really a club but kind of an indie crowd dance bar. I have a lot of fun every time I go. cheap beers, very mixed but younger crowd. King's Barcade - music venue upstairs from Neptunes. I've actually never been. Garland - not sure if they're a bar at night but the restaurant gets good reviews (silver award in the N&O last year). never been.
Fayetteville St. Area The Oxford - live music at night. lots of people - very crowded. mixed crowd from young professionals on up to older folks and cougars. good/decent beer selection. Zinda - owned by same as Oxford. very much a night club. typically club beer selection. lot's of Indian people when I went. College aged up to young professionals. Common - it was dead the only time I went but it may have been since NC State was out of session. Was pretty chill, not very good beer selection though. There really was hardly anybody in there so I can't comment on the typical crowd. Big Easy - Cajun restaurant by day, packed college bar by night. Live music, seriously crammed back usually with lines to get in later at night. Coglin's - 80's music bar. Jammed packed with lines to get in. College kids and older cougar type of crowd. Sticky floors - that kind of place. Gets packed late at night - if you want a hookup this is probably where you'll find it. Patty O Beers - chill little bottle shop with a small bar near the Capitol. Capital Tavern - I think that's what it's called now. Used to be Isaac Hunter's. Pretty cool atmosphere, but again, crowded with a younger college aged crowd. They got rid of the games they used to have and now it's more of a dance floor. Foundation - small bar that specializes in bourbon. I like this place a lot. can be a yuppie crowd and can take a while to get in. Anchor Bar - pretty much the Greek Life hangout in downtown. Mostly liquor with some beers.
There are also a lot of restaurants that have bars open at night but I wouldn't consider them bars. I'm sure I'm missing some on this list too. It's a lot to rattle off the top of my head.

Wilmington St. Area
Raleigh Times - ostensibly a very good bar. College to young professional crowd. owner (Greg Hatem) has come under fire for opposing the patio laws so many, including myself, boycott it. I have to admit they have an awesome venue, great bar food, and a good beer selection. rooftop, etc. it's pretty much the full package. Landmark Tavern - I like this bar a lot. eclectic but young professional crowd. very cool patio out back. decent beer selection. good liquor selection. can get crowded, but not Cogglins crowded. Royal James - dance bar with college aged crowd - has some creepers that stare at said college aged crowd. pretty expensive with very limited beer selection. has a giant outdoor space that they share with London Bridge Pub. London Bridge - see: Royal James Architect - like the full fledged dance bar version of the two above. Green Light - really cool speakeasy that's "hidden" in the Architect. really good cocktails and very small. Maybe room for 15 people. You used to be able to get reservations in advance. Busy Bee / The Hive - Dance bar on weekend nights upstairs. Good cocktails and good beers. They have a rooftop patio that's nice. Probably my favorite "dance bar". They also have killer food during the day. Fox Liquor Lounge - awesome cocktails. Ask for Matt C. cool atmosphere. can be 1 in 1 out when they get crowded but they do an excellent job keeping it the right level of people. yuppie crowd.
Moore Square / City Market Area
Rum Runners - can be dead at times but great on Wednesday and Saturday. very college aged. dueling piano bar. cheap drinks. Woody's - a small sports bar. I think their food is overpriced and not very good. they have trivia Tuesday's and Thursdays. middle aged male crowd when I've went. The Pour House - really good music venue. Shows every night usually for pretty cheap. Good selection of drafts. Has an upstairs loft that overlooks the stage. crowd varies based on who's playing but I've always had fun.
RIP Tir na Nog
