If i were one of the fans anxiously and angrily awaiting the release of Fez during all the postponements I might not want to support him. But I wasn't, so meh. Fun game.

Indie game was pretty interesting and it's on Netflix. The creator of Meat Boy was a cool guy but the programmer of the game enforces EVERY negative stereotype of programmers. Phil Fish was one of the worst human beings ever put on camera. He said he would kill himself if Fez turned out to be a failure. Plus you have the John Blow pretentiousness. Phil Fish makes John Blow look like Daniel Craig.

Maybe it's just from growing up, but I've realized there is a very noticeable divide between what I play/what interests me and what seems to interest the majority of gamers today.

For example, I never cared for Skyrim, Mass Effect, Fallout, Minecraft although I don't think any of them are bad games. They're just much different from what I grew up with and I guess that's just been a barrier to entry to me. There's also the time commitment which is becoming less and less possible to do.

I do have a problem with publishers running shit into the ground through endless sequels every year. They did this with Guitar Hero and now they're doing it with CoD. I don't mind sequels and I definitely don't mind it when 3-4 years are spent in between games to get shit right. Putting out a new version every single year is getting out of hand. Then there's the "always on gaming as a service" shit; this kind of shit turns me away from a lot of games (SimCity for one).

Then there's Nintendo, who mainly just makes me sad now. I grew up with all of their systems and can remember when they were running shit with an iron fist. I've wanted them to rebound and succeed (and yes, I know the Wii was a commercial success. I'm talking about games) every generation but after the Wii and especially the Wii U I've all but lost faith in them. I doubt I will ever get another one of their systems unless they get a game with some really serious draw. They used to have every 3rd party developer making games for them; these days they're basically the only ones supporting their own system.

I doubt I will pick up any of the new systems aside from MAYBE the PS4.

This guy makes a lot of good points: http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-6-most-ominous-trends-in-video-games/

How have people not played Super Meat Boy? (I know, stupid "You haven't [done something I've done]?!?!" logic).

But really, I used to stay up days on end playing that game with no sleep, trying to beat bonus levels and get all the bandaids.

If I could do the whole experience over again, I definitely would. Game is polished perfectly, in every aspect.

Maybe Bioware gets to make more KoTOR style games. I could dig that at least. Guess we can forget a good space flight sim like TIE Fighter though.

First I want to say that to the user above who said they never played Skyrim, you should really give it a shot. It's quite an amazing achivement that gives you hours upon hours of open world gameplay.

Second, I'm not worried about the state of gaming and here's why:

It's easier than ever for indie developers to get their games to the masses. You think EA and Ubisoft have a hold on everything? Explain Minecraft. The greatest game of that year came from one man and was delivered via a simple download from a website.

Digital delivery like Steam makes it easier than ever for indie developers to get their product out to the masses. Want to make a AAA-title but need millions? Fund it on Kickstarter. Fuck EA and Ubisoft. They're not needed anymore.
