Holy fuck...

Had "Doug's Filet Roll" (or something like that)... fucking awesome. Raw filet slices on crab + cream cheese sushi with some sort of sauce.

I will be back there... often.

that makes me so sad, I only wanted to go there because they had a "tanked" aquarium, but it was ugly anyway. Probably one of my least favorite tanks they have built

Men of good taste.

There were (new) fish in the tank and they seemed fine. The tank is a little over the top cartoony, but the place seems to aim for that look all around. They do quality food, but are very self-aware that they are a gimmicky, over-the-top restaurant at the same time. I like it

I got to go today, and we all dug it. I got the yellowtail with jalapeños ("Big Al's Yellowtail"). I'm actually not a big sashimi person, but there was definitely enough flavor going on for me. There was a bunch of other stuff I want to try, and I can't wait to go back.

Was not impressed. Won't go back.

Cliff notes:

- Lost our reservation
- Manager was creeeeepy.
- Fish tank is stupid
- Sushi was a combination of bad and overpriced

AHA, I didn't see the fish tank you guys are talking about.

I did get the feeling it was a State place so I think we should all fall in line and give good reviews or none at all. I'm being serious.

Went there a month or so ago and loved it. Great ginger salad (incredible presentation for a damn side salad), and the roll I got was fantastic. My friend made his own roll, which was good and got another one that I liked as well. We had the calamari, which I thought was very good. Definitely want to try more stuff. I haven't left a restaurant that full in a very long time.

The liquor milk shakes were also very good.

What's up with the music/sounds in the bathroom? weird.

On a related note, I start taking care of it this week. Fish are all sick, water is cloudy. Will probably take me a month or so to get it right

My wife, sister-in-law, and I went to the Charlotte one Saturday and really enjoyed it. Everything we ordered tasted great, service was great, and overall it was enjoyable.

The spiked milkshake I got was really good too, if not a little expensive for a spiked shake.

Went tonight. Liked it a lot.

While the atmosphere is far from classy, the menu is huge as are the portions. But the items are designed well, even the fusion-y stuff.

I got to try the Tuna Nachos, the Truffle Fries, Lobster Springrolls, the Nature Boy's WOOOOO–shi BuffalOOOOO–shi Roll, and the Jalapeno burger. All were very good.

The sushi rolls are quite large. These are not your Mom & Pop Sushi Shop style rolls; these could double as torpedoes on a Uboat. Get them cut into 10 pieces instead of 8.

Also the fish tank is extremely big. I feel horrible for the person who has to clean it, and I hope they get paid well.

This is a loud place when it starts filling up, so don't go expecting a quiet, romantic evening with your squeeze.

And it's pricey. There are a lot of "options" and "configurables" with the burgers. While mine was tasty, I wouldn't call them the best burgers in town. Not for the $. Same with the more classic sushi rolls on their menu. It was still good, don't get me wrong.

It's like someone took an upscale Red Robin and a Tasu, threw them in a blender, hit puree, and poured the resulting contents into a Cheesecake Factory sized portion.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing.

It looks pretty expensive compared to other places I've been though... anywhere else that has sushi for $13 for an 8 piece roll is bogo or something

I will say that the sushi roll I got was ginormous. My bento box had a 4 piece Rainbow roll and the mass was equivalent to easily 6, possibly 8 pieces of more standard sushi. It was so large that it was almost annoying to eat cleanly in one bite (and sushi obviously isn't a thing that works well if a piece needs more than one bit).

No idea if that's standard there or not.

I didn't think the pricing was bad at all though. I think my bento box was that huge 4 piece sushi roll, a mini burger of the day, a mound of edamame, sweet potato fries, and thai cucumbers for $14 or something. It was definitely more food than I could eat for $14.

But yes, price-wise, it won't compare to your corner sushi shop where you can get 6 piece eel rolls for $4 or something.

Their rolls are large, but if you're like me and have a big appetite then good luck getting out for under $45 (tip included). That would be like 2 specialty rolls and 2 drinks for me.

Well, that all depends on what you order. I couldn't finish my $14 plate. But yeah if you're including drinks and looking to eat a lot of food, you can spend lots of money at any restaurant. And of course if you start getting into the specialty rolls, same thing. You can eat inexpensively and well there and you can also spend a decent amount of money.

Alright, that's good to know. I saw the prices and thought that even for "specialty" sushi it looked a little pricey, but the burgushi looked reasonably priced.

I don't go out to eat, only to partially satiate my appetite. Regardless of how large Cowfish's rolls are, I need 2. Not complaining, just saying. I've only had one of their sandwiches/burgers once, and it was big enough.

And I usually don't have more than 1 drink when I go out to eat, as it's the easiest way to avoid inflating your bill (however I've found I'm in the minority for that most times).

^^ I understand that, but my plate came with a small burger, 1 sushi roll, sweet potato fries, edamame, and thai cucumbers. So it wasn't just 1 roll, because I agree 1 roll wouldn't be enough by itself, even if they are large.

I went and thought it was pretty good but not sure I'd go back often. the sushi was really good, the burger was kind of greasy and fell apart when I tried to eat it. menu is way too big. cool fish tank/interactive sushi bar though.

Yeah, the bento boxes are great. Its like $14 and you get a lot of food. For the sushi roll, you can choose bt. a couple different rolls. I got the rainbow roll and it was really good

^^perhaps it was bad phrasing, but I was trying to describe (in the first comment) a common outing for people, or so I thought. I don't really care about drinking when I go out to eat, b/c for my money tasty food >>> tasty beer/wine/liquor.

You could easily have a $12-$14 bento box and have a HUGE meal. Whereas you're acting like it's $45 per person, just because you're the outlier that needs two rolls, and purportedly has two drinks with every meal. It's just a silly and dishonest way to try and prove your point.

The reality is you can get a huge entree for $10-$14, just like most places, and if you want apps and drinks then that's on you. I've seen the size of their rolls, and they're pretty massive. It's rare that someone would need two. I've had their boxes, and they're also pretty large. Like I said earlier, I wish the prices and portion sizes would come down, but that doesn't mean it's $45 per person to eat there

it is nothing like a fast food hybrid. Do you ONLY eat at places that serve one specific kind of food?

It's not some amazing restaurant but it was good food, with a good menu, at decent prices. Both the sushi and the burger I got were excellent. My only complaint might be that the menu is almost too big. If we had one near us, it's not something I'd go to all the time, but I'll probably go there again whenever I hit up SouthPark next.

But if you're comparing it to a Taco Bell hybrid, you've obviously never been.

it's obvious the right correlations

would you go to a restaurant where the name on the front was "El Verde Casa; Authentic Mexican food and Hot dogs"?

would you trust their hot dogs there or go for the Mexican food?

I usually mainly eat sushi at a sushi restaurant. why the hell would go for their burgers? unless the the burgers is oozing with sex.

also vice versa. I mainly eat burgers at a burger restaurant. why the hell would I eat their sushi? I aint touching that shit.

I dont want my burger mixing with my sushi. it's two different worlds. Like I dont like my my cheap tacos blending with my original recipe 16 herbs and spices chicken batter. Because I'm not glutton

and I'm trolling.

You're trolling...but I'll jump in anyways....

it's a fucking burger. It's not like you're combining Thai food and classic Italian. All you need is quality beef and people who know how to cook a burger to the right temperature and you're golden. The chefs are doing Pad Thai and turning around and making hand-made pasta. Beef, cook to temperature, and fun toppings/ingredients if you want (fried egg, etc). Most extremely high end restaurants make the best burgers. Is it because they are great burger cooks?? No...it's because they get bad-ass beef and have competent chefs who know how to cook meat to the right temp (and they probably ground their beef in house as well).

And to the $45-a-person comment...so what? Unless you're doing fast food or a small joint...I feel like that's pretty common to go out. If that includes tip...then that's even better. I can't remember the last time I went out to dinner with the lady and got out for less than $80 or $90.

it's ploy. you are being fooled and hoodwinked. this is no different than when they conned people in eating chicken and waffles.

those burgers better be more than just a fucking burger. they better be outstanding. and the sushi better be outstanding. I think with this idea they were like lets cash in because people are gluttons.

i never heard anyone eating a 100% ground beef burger was like " you know what will go good with this burger my nigga? Guess? ... SUSHI!"

I never heard anyone say " you know what will hit the spot with this sushi?? shit, a burger with mayo. why hasn't this happen?"

you're being doped into a restaurant ploy.

Mmmm...not really. They just have to be good, seeing as the prices aren't ridiculous. If you see a $20 burger...that should be outstanding. Its not like they are combining these two items and jacking up the prices. They are just combining the two items hoping people will think its interesting and come in. Or hoping that a couple says one night:

Wife: I want sushi tonight.
Husband: I'm craving beef.

And come in. Options. And its easier to do with burgers and sushi than it is something like authentic Italian and Asian.

No one is getting duped as long as the prices are reasonable (which they seem to be for everyone in this thread except for TKE-Teg.

You're just failing in your trolling.

went last night. I've been like five times now I guess.

Taste explosion roll - kind of like a burger on a roll, it was good. Not as good as Deliverance Roll.

Tropical Storm Roll - this was actually very good. Basically a california roll wrapped with three types of sashimi.

Ginger salads were, as always, very good.
