That is sound advice given that real critics can certainly be harsh and you're absolutely right that legitimate directors don't get into such arguments. However, being new to this board I was taken aback by the negativity and I don't think our film deserves the level of abusive response received in this thread. I have realistic expectations for this movie, and it certainly has had a positive response from a lot of viewers. You can chose to believe that all of these viewers are poor critics if you would like. Do I think this film is the best comedy produced in this year's competition? Probably not, but I do think we made a solid product with the resources and time we were given and we've made a lot of people laugh which was the overall goal anyway.

You know I truly enjoy forums, actually, and I was interested in being a part of this board. I specifically like discussing current events, sports and debate topics. I must admit that was told about this site and did think that it may be an avenue to get some support for my film. Why don't you shoot me for it.

How would any of you know what value I bring to the forum if you never even gave me the opportunity? You are never going to know, though, sadly. There are too many other message boards out there where I won't be hazed and bullied from the first post. In fact, I've never seen nastiness in such quantity in nearly 12 years of posting on forums. If this is the best NC State can do I am ashamed, but I suppose there has to be an outlet for insecure cowards to release their frustration without any real life repercussions.

Anyway, regardless of what you thought of the film, thanks for playing ball. The traffic on this thread certainly garnered some views, and given that our opponent most likely used a fake view generator and may get dq'd, you very well could have helped us win. Thank you.

You seem to have focused on the few posters (known trolls) who didn't have something good to say, and most of those only showed up after you became combative with them and fed into their troll bait.

And moron is right, if you want to go into a creative industry, even your best projects will attract negative criticism. I won't say to ignore it either, because a lot of time the harshest critics are the only ones that will teach you anything. No one spends time on improving their skills after a bunch of "Great Job" and "I enjoyed it" but they will take a look at a skill set if someone responds that they didn't like the dialogue, or the camera work, or the sound quality.

^the only constructive criticism that I can remember from this thread may have been the suggestion to use a boom mic instead of the on board camera mic. Other than that, negative "criticism" included the suggestion to quit making films, that the movie is embarrassing and that we wasted potential with an overall insinuation that everyone involved in such criticism could have done better.

Obviously the intention was not to suggest improvements and comment on mistakes but to intentionally haze and be derisive. They even admitted that. I know the difference between legitimate criticism and someone trying to yank my chain. It's unfortunate that grown men feel the need to do that.

I agree that flattery is not the best path to improvement. That wasn't my intention for this thread. Still, some people don't seem to understand that it possible to deliver criticism while maintaining decency.

Criticism given in the form of sarcasm and hyperbole can still be constructive.

You can't post a video to the Internet, literally the largest single venue on the entire planet, then get butt hurt and whine like a baby at a few negative comments. Don't make your works public, if you are going to have paper thin skin about it.

steps to handle criticism:
1) focus on the positive. It would have been interesting, for example, if you talked about how the "nice dick" or "bitch" scenes came about or talk about an interesting things that happened in the filming of the scene, since clearly people here liked them
2) for negative comments that you disagree with or can't do anything about, ignore them.
3) for negative comments that you might could agree with, be able to publicly admit where you did something wrong, or that you didn't like how something came out and you'd change it in the future. Be able to laugh at yourself.
4) know your audience. In a venue like TWW, we expect you to give us shit back if you can, not throw a tantrum like a child. If you aren't prepared for this, don't post it here.

Don't be so defensive. You've made it this far, you SHOULD have some confidence in yourself, where you don't feel the need to take things so personally.

While I don't think my comments are akin to whining like a baby, I didn't expect the level of disrespect I received right off the bat and I naively misunderstood the atmosphere of this message board. If I knew what I was getting in to I would have been better prepared.

Contrary to what you might think I welcome good criticism and am perfectly capable of laughing at myself. If you would like, I could point out several things in the film that we could have done better. I felt the need to respond to some of the negative criticism because it suited my interests to do so.
A thread full of negative comments wasn't likely to garner me views. Also, continuing to post here kept the thread alive and gained me further viewership.

As for giving you shit back, I'm not really interested because I don't get off on giving people shit. I will leave you with one final comment, though. Most decent human beings don't needlessly deal out disrespect. I sincerely hope some of you don't treat people in real life the way that you reportedly treat new members to this board and I'm fairly certain that you don't out of an interest for self-preservation. As relayed to me by multiple members of this board, this kind of negative behavior is an obstacle to growing membership.
