The erosion of rights just before our eyes. But it's OK. The "make government transparent" president and his "calm down and shut up" buddy have assured us that because we can't be 100% safe, we don't need all of our rights.
And Snowden doesn't need PR. He'll probably end up as one of the thousands of bodies floating down some Asian-continent river. 6/11/2013 1:38:44 PM |

Hasting's death is kind of creepy, though, in all honesty.
I don't know dick about cars, but I still don't understand how his car caught on fire like that? I think I read that his engine was found 50 ft away from the wreck? It's pretty weird. It's certainly possible that Hastings was paranoid and drove recklessly, but the whole thing is kind of bizarre. 6/20/2013 12:45:21 PM |

They didn't plan to kill him quite like that, so no time to inject the body and not worth involving a local coroner. Things just got a little out of control, much like the guy the FBI killed in Florida last month. Might as well just keep driving and call it a job well done.

With Snowden though, they'll break out the Polonium. Maybe hire some Russians to do him in. It gets even easier to kill him if he travels to Latin America.

The U.S. Government has broken into Greenwald's house in Brazil.
Quote : | "When I was in Hong Kong, I spoke to my partner in Rio via Skype and told him I would send an electronic encrypted copy of the documents,” Greenwald said. “I did not end up doing it. Two days later his laptop was stolen from our house and nothing else was taken. Nothing like that has happened before.”" |
Snowden has a dead man's switch archive of classified documents that will automatically be released upon his death.

Oh shut up with the conspiracies. The guy was an alcoholic who had crashed a car drunk before. Apparently he had been sober for years, but guess what: alcoholics relapse all the time, especially in stressful situations, which he evidently was in, thinking the FBI was on his tail.
The video shows him running a red light and speeding, with a witness corroborating it. At 4:30 in the morning. 37% of fatal car crashes at night involve alcohol impairment. If he isn't another statistic, I'll eat my shoe.
It's fucking ridiculous to look at all this and presume anything else. 6/25/2013 10:56:26 PM |

Interestingly, Edward Snowden cites his "moment of realization" as an incident he witnessed while working for the CIA in Geneva in which they got a banker drunk and convinced him to drive home. They then called the cops on him and used the criminal charges to pressure him into cooperating.
A drive-by-wire car like that is practically begging to be sabotaged. 6/25/2013 11:23:35 PM |

Cars can and do burst into flames in severe crashes. Even Mercedes Benzs. There is nothing unusual about that at all given the severity of the impact that is evident in the video. Cars can and do eject their powertrains (engine/transmission combo) far from them in severe accidents. There is photographic evidence of this if you care to search the internet. Try googling "car crash engine" for a start. You will find many photos of engines/powertrains separated from their cars.
The powertrain is the heaviest part of the car aside from the body, weighing hundreds of pounds, and thus has a lot of inertia. In crashes at high enough speed, if the powertrain is not stopped by the object struck by the car, it can and will leave the car.
I would presume he hit the tree at an oblique angle allowing the powertrain to bypass the tree. This is supported by the final place of the car and just looking at the collision damage.

The CIA obviously got Hastings drunk, maybe by the use of a feeding tube, and forced him at gun-point to drive. While they were getting him drunk, technicians hacked his car to accelerate and steer erratically after several minutes. Job done. 6/26/2013 2:59:08 AM |

Also, don't forget British government storming the Guardian London offices and ordering their hard drives destroyed. Yikes.
Quote : | "“You have powerful protections in America that we don’t,” Mr. Rusbridger, 59, said Tuesday in an interview after publishing an op-ed article in his paper describing some of the government’s actions.
In conversations with him, the British government threatened the paper with “prior restraint,” he said, to stop it from publishing material, and then demanded that The Guardian return or destroy the classified material it was holding.
“It was quite explicit: we had to destroy it or give it back to them,” Mr. Rusbridger said in an earlier interview with the BBC. “I explained that there were other copies, not within the U.K., so I couldn’t see the point of destroying one copy. But because we had other copies I was happy to destroy a copy in London.”" |
