Duty (or "obligation" to retreat? In your own house? Most states don't have that.

FL doesn't have duty to retreat in public--that's what "stand your ground" is.

the articles chosen to represent that case are vastly misleading. the short version is this, and of course some of the details may even be unclear, but here it is:

she and her boyfriend had repeated problems, apparently some with him being violent, and some with her...he was at the house permissively (he said he had the right to get the kids...i dunno if that's true, but protective orders usually apply to places, not people, so it should have been listed if he wasn't allowed to be at the house) ...he was getting the kids to leave...they argued over why she was texting her ex-husband...he said that was probably because she fucked him and the new baby was actually the ex-husbands...she gets pissed and says if that's what he thinks, she's got something for him, and leaves to go to the garage (he later said he knew exactly what she meant, and was trying to GTFO as fast as possible then)

she claims she could not get out of the garage door...he claims it was working that morning and also later that evening with no problem...he is getting two kids together to leave...she comes in and point the gun at him, then shoots...he takes off with the two kids and never looks back...jury convicted in 12 minutes.

now it's possible that it's all bullshit, but very unlikely. also, originally he backed her up and said he was the aggressor after she got arrested, because he was trying to get back with her. then five months later she violated a TRO or something like that and assaulted him again and was convicted of that, and he said fuck it, i'm telling the truth/changing my story.

Well it wasn't the house she was currently living in.

I'm pretty ignorant to these particular laws and the situation. I'm just saying it seems hard to ethically claim self-defense warning shot if she could've driven away using the car that contained the weapon.

Martins - "you live by the sword, you die by the sword." Sucks you lost a family member, but drop the innocent kid thing. Maybe the parents should have been more engaged prior to the funeral, and maybe the fights, the drugs, and the guns wouldn’t be around. Zim is a D-bag, got it, he shouldn’t have been acting as neighborhood watch captain, got it, but if Trayvon hadn’t engaged Zim, Zim would be guilty of murder. Own your mistake of not parenting Trayvon to not turn to violence first, and then odds are this never would have happened.

DA - The defense thanks you for all the help with the witnesses. Seriously, time to look into why people in that area are so stupid, I’m talking to you big girl.

You inadvertently just documented your upbringing to be racist, not “out there directly racist”, but the “double standard subvergant” racist. The media let you off the hook, but the door is now open, and that usually motivates dumbasses to do dumb things. Also, you are now the poster child for keeping cursive in the classrooms, a very big poster.

To sum up: One D-bag, acting like a d-bag, kills a guy full of intent to act like a thug. The media, seeing dollar signs, chose a side, and began to fan flames. The truth comes out, no laws are broken, and the media gets off free, now richer, and the president forgets he said the whole “if I had a son” thing after seeing pictures of fights, drugs and guns. There is no accountability anymore, the parents should have raised him better, Zim should not have acted like cop and the media must quit escalating problems.
