The court approved of Detroit filing for bankruptcy, opening the door for the bankruptcy. This doesn't necessarily approve of what will and will not be able to be written off though, for example pensions and other debt.


Still, as a city worker who is now retired or nearing retirement.... That has to be a mindfuck. yeah...uhhh, hope you weren't planning on retiring on that pension plan. Cause I haven't decided if I'm going to pay you yet.

This really does have implications for all cities or institutions in financial trouble, especially those with defined benefit retirement plans. In this case, the court is clearly picking winners and losers.

Do any of my more enlightened bros have any commentary on the pension cuts? This isn't exactly a new thing, but it seems to set guidelines for other distressed cities. Not to mention screwing over those who worked for the city for so long.

1) not live in a shithole thats been in steady decline for decades (plenty of time to get out) or,

2) elect politicians that dont piss away their pensions.
