Brother's friend died on my brother's couch from a heart attack. He was 26.

On a semi-related note, the summer before my Senior year in HS, a guy in my class wrecked driving drunk and almost died. He wasn't wearing his seat belt, was thrown from the car, and paralyzed from the waist down. I ran into him at a bar a few years later and he was so drunk he could barely talk.

A good friend of mine, who attended NC State as well as my high school, was murdered in Santa Cruz several years ago. He was kind of a free spirit / hippie type. He moved to California after college and became a tree man. He was going to sell some weed to some guys he didn't know very well. They decided to rob him by holding a cloth soaked in chloroform over his mouth, but it didn't work and they beat him until he was severely injured and needed to go to the hospital. Rather than take him, they decided to invite over an ex-convict and white supremacist they knew and then they decided to kill him and use his truck to dispose of his body. Everybody realized he wasn't coming home when his truck turned up torched on a dirt road in a national forest. The meth head girlfriend of one of the guys tried to use his credit cards and they all got caught but there were plea deals for two of them because they needed testimony to convict the other guy without a body. This was about 4 years ago. They just recently found his remains in the woods near where his burned out truck was found. His parents were finally able to have a funeral just a few weeks ago. His name was Elias Sorokin. He was a hell of a good guy.

Buddy of mine was found behind the point and the other establishments right at 5 points. The back of his head and the back of his arms were all tore up (defensive wounds). They took his wallet keys and phone and left him to die. His offense? He had inadvertently messed up their game of pool. When confronted my buddy offered to give them 20 and a round of drinks. They decided to jump him out back. Rpd has dropped the case. there have been no charges filed. I know the name of the guy that did it. It's going to be hard to restrain myself if I ever run into him.

My dad was 31 when he died. His step-grandmother had died and he'd been asked to be a pall bearer at the funeral. He turned it down because my brother was an infant and the funeral was in SC. He spent all day the day of the funeral drinking and decided that he needed to go. He and my mom had a huge fight and he left in the middle of the night to go to SC. He made it to SC, but at a crossroad ran a stop sign and was hit by another truck. He died on site of head injuries. No one knows what happened between NC and SC, but he'd taken a handgun with him and the handgun was never found. My mom and grandma figured that he hocked it somewhere along the way for booze, but really have no idea what his intentions were once he got to SC.

Around 1998, the assistant principal of Apex Middle School (Reuben McNeil) was robbed and murdered. I'd attended Apex Middle, and knew Mr. McNeil kind of well. He was a good-hearted guy, and had once told the principal I was a "good kid" when I got sent to the principal's office.

The murderer's story was that he and Mr. McNeil had agreed to go have gay sex, but they stopped off to buy some crack first and Mr. McNeil was killed by the crack dealer. The guy was convicted in 1999...it looks like he's still on Death Row.

a friend of mine died in a car accident the summer after HS graduation. she was turning when a tractor trailer slammed into her tiny little car.

my cousin died a year later in a single car accident. reports said they found his cell phone in the passenger floorboard and took that to mean he lost control while trying to reach for his phone. slammed head first into a light pole. we were really close

a girl i went to grade school with, and used to chase around the playground in 1st grade, was murdered. she was found with her head cut off and stuffed her in the trunk of her own car and abandoned on an old dirt road somewhere outside the county lines. i honestly don't think charges were ever filed. UPDATE: yep, still a cold case in Cabarrus County.

Think the only murder victim I knew was a childhood Sunday School teacher. Her husband drowned her in the bathtub a few years later after an argument of some kind. Tried to make it look accidental but apparently failed, as I'm pretty sure he ended up getting convicted.

While in high school, 3 friends in my graduating class were killed in accidents, all within 18 months. One of them was the granddaughter of NASCAR driver Dick Trickle, who killed himself this year. I think in the time I was there, 5 or 6 died (including 1 on his way home from his first day there), though the 3 I mentioned were the only ones in my class.

Also, a friend/neighbor from a while back was killed. Fell asleep at the wheel, hit head on with an 18 wheeler, maybe 1/4 mile from home.

dude at my high school died. He was riding his crotch rocket, speeding like hell, couldn't make the turn to slow down to enter the senior parking lot. He hit a light pole and supermanned right into a tree beyond it, nasty.

another dude from high school, we worked at the Winn-Dixie together, he died in a car wreck. Hit someone head on b/c he fell asleep at the wheel.

My uncle died after flipping his corvette; he was intoxicated and not wearing a seat belt.

My 8th grade civics teacher was stabbed to death by his wife who was suffering from postpartum depression.

I've been to my fair share of 10-50F's, suicides and murders but I didn't know any of the people.

Damn! My cousin whose wife was murdered had a friend commit suicide a few days ago. The guy was 47 and single. He was retired and happy, but he was having trouble sleeping, so he started taking one of those, medications that helps people sleep. The problem is it has the side effect of causing people to want to committ suicide.

no one close to me. 6 people from my high school class have died (that I know of). One was in Iraq, 1 was a cop who was killed on duty, 2 suicides, 1 motorcycle accident and 1 health issue.

Other than that, I can't think of anyone who has died suddenly that I know of.

a guy i went to high school with was just found dead in a public restroom here in town from a heroin OD. It's sad because he's in a bunch of pics from the past week of various christmas reunions and stuff with friends who were all back for break.

I had a distant cousin who got murdered in a home invasion. I didn't know her that well; she lived out of state and I saw her once per year at most at family get-togethers for Christmas.

There was a dude I went to HS with who got shot and killed in what I think was a drug deal (X, if I remember correctly) gone bad. I can't even think of his name now, though.

When I was at Cherry Point, my squadron had one of our Marines accidentally shoot and kill another one of our Marines (his best friend, incidentally). That wasn't a murder, but it was manslaughter.

I had a friend/acquaintance in HS die in a car crash (fell asleep, drove off a mountain going to App State). In a twist of irony, his dad played the blonde cousin on Dukes of Hazzard for a couple of seasons when Bo and Luke were out for contract disputes.

I was friends for years with BigBlueRam. He didn't die directly in a vehicle crash, but due to complications of a surgery on his leg due to getting hit by a car while on a motorcycle.

Not car crashes or murders, but I played baseball with a guy who raped his sister (stepsister?), then committed suicide by hanging. Had a flight school instructor hang himself when I was a student. Knew a pilot in another squadron at Cherry Point who killed himself. My great-grandfather killed himself, but that was when my granddad was young...and I had a great-aunt who got hit and killed by a car as a pedestrian, but that was also before I was born. I've also had a friend/acquaintance get killed in a Harrier crash, and a former instructor of mine get killed in a Prowler crash.


These were really all acquaintances, though. The only one I had any real relationship with (no homo) was Ivan (BigBlueRam).

This thread inspired me to see whether my own cousins are still living, and the closest thing I've found so far is that the wife of one of my cousins is on Facebook and although her profile is bare, at least it doesn't show any mourning for her husband.


Anyway, I remember an OSU student from one of the CollegeWeb sites (the network of CrazyWeb-based forums that shut down about 7 years ago) who went by the username poliscichick died in a crash with a drunk driver about 8 years ago.

A girl i went to middle and high school recently took her own life several weeks ago. I had a juvenile crush on her in the 8th grade because she was super smart and that was something i found hugely attractive at the time. Later in life she found a joy in good beer, and i believe had I kept in touch with her we would have gotten along well, but sad to say we didn't.
