I see 2 mistakes here.
1) Getting into an unorthodox working situation with another photographer. While it's not true of all all photographers, I have found that a lot tend to have difficulty keeping their personal and professional lives separate and have poor business and financial skill sets, which tends to put stress on everything.
2) Feeding the chit chat machine

Quite the opposite. I do most of the cooking. Ever since I assisted photographers doing food photography and cooking shows in the past, I've been pretty interested in the culinary arts. I plan on shooting my own cooking show in the spring with a master chef friend.

This is their latest super bright LED's that they just came out with this May. They've had engineering set backs with it, plus they've spread their talent and resources out a bit thin for creating new product segments since they've grow super big in just the last 3 years. They are hiring like crazy and trying to play catchup with all the new tech they are developing. They are doing some cool stuff, but they just need more people.

I was actually thinking of getting a job there, but I figured I'd go independent with my idea since I've got the knowledge, experience and tenacity to see this through the end; If I don't know it, I can easily network and bring someone in who does.

The biggest issue is the heat requirements, specially when its that amount of power in a localized area; you'd have to turn to extreme and exotic cooling to cool the LED's without having them blow up, which is very very expensive to do. It wouldn't be viable to sell to the consumer market just because of cost sake, its the reason why I've focused my target market for professional photography, commercial and industrial applications.

I plan on building it as a niche market for film lighting, but since my design is so much more efficient and brighter than anything currently on the market I should have no problem differentiating myself in the LED panel world. It's application has also bleed into commercial, architectural and industrial lighting after talking to a number of other local businesses about the idea and they are working with me in trying to get the necessary certifications as well as to design them properly for each application. I'm partnering with three companies and pulling in talent to take my idea to reality very quickly. I had the idea early this month, within a week, already had the design in CAD.

I'm also partnering with Cree and getting some engineering samples next month; I should have a working prototype by the end of the year and start getting the design patented, then apply for an NC Idea grant to start building the first yields by late spring or summer of next year. The biggest issues are going to be the exotic cooling and then the digital controller.

Got off a long phone conversation with Cree, they will be sending me engineering samples of their two most powerful LED's to work with. I have a meeting with them next week. Might be pushing my time table of prototyping up by a month sooner. I also contacted my old photo bosses down in Florida and both are going to do product testing for me next year. I have yet another meeting with an Architectural firm next week about augmenting my design for applications into building design.

Concurrently, I have a meeting with the Art Institute about my teaching position and will pitch the idea of expanding my lesson plans to go across country doing photo seminars at a number of AI schools. Oh did I mention I'm renovating 6 houses over the next year or so?

My current plans is to develop all three of my businesses under one brand and bring in talent to help run the multimedia and design firms, while I mostly focus on the LED side of the business. I figure if I can bring up one company into success, the other two will follow suit provided I have the right people in play and I know the people I currently have are top notch.
