There are immigrants who kept their culture. Some are 1st generation 2nd generation etc but then there are people who identify as American and may not even know the cultural traditions that are connected to their ethnicity. twerking and most of the modern things associated with "black culture" have no connection to africa. They are american things and are not limited to blacks.

There are definitely geographic and economic subcultures within american culture but they are not race dependent.

Rural
Class
Southern

Most people identify poor, urban and southern as the black culture and rich and rural as white cultures.

As a racist, you have trouble distinguishing race from culture. You see the two as the same but If you were sent, as a newborn to grow up in Mongolia with a Mongolian family then you would be completely mongolian culturally even though your ethnicity is not mongolian at all.

Of course I know that history creates different culture defined by races. But you haven't established why I should want this, and more importantly, why we should create and continue those differences. I am in favor of diminishing the racially defined culture. In other words, our nation's culture should have less to do with race by the time I die.

It sounds to me (and others ITT) that people want to preserve {insert color here} culture. I do not. The idea is deplorable.

Ok so by coincidence, it originated in Africa but by connection i mean it was not brought over and continued. it is definitely something that came to the us long after the slave trade which is the disconnect. There are currently far more white people twerking than black. That doesn't make it a white thing though. There are just more white people to twerk.

I wouldn't call it an African thing either even though as you have shown, it has african origins. I would clal it an american thing.

Why? Just let it be. Stop agonizing over it. This is just an aspect of our country that does not exist in continental Europe.

I never said that things were not American culture, I just said that certain things identify stongly to subgroups of Americans moreso than others, and for historically valid reasons. It is the same resaon why Bavarians are more snobby when it comes to beer than most Germans in the Rhineland. Should you say that they should be forced to trade their expertise so that both cultures are equally astute when it comes to a hefe?
