I agree. I think they (especially the first) are good movies. Great for someone who doesn't know much about Star Trek, great for guys wanting to see a star trek movie and have a girlfriend tagging along, great for bringing in a new audience of newb trek fans. But I think this could have been done while also staying true to ST.

And while I love the eye candy provided by Chris Pine, I found it hard to believe him as a captain. just my opinion

the transporter itself is fucking dumb cause even if the federation banned beaming nukes, theres no fucking way the cardassians or the romulans or the Klingons would. They'd be transporter-nuking the shit out of everyone left and right

the tech in star trek has always served the plot first at the expense of overall universe integrity. sometimes to a lesser extent in the better treks (ds9) but theres nothing that makes non-jj trek fundamentally superior from a technology usage standpoint.
