I will never understand what sways the mob on this site. TWW essentially tried to ruin Greg Higher's career, and made many a joke at the expense of [user]leathermystic[/user] and others but somebody trolls a craigslist ad in a harmless way and everyone loses their shit? What's the worst that could have happened, he just answers the questions asked, we get a few laughs, and that's it? How did any of this harm the guy? It's not like she exposed his personal information or anything.

If you're a TWW user, you already have some expectation of trolling and generally shitty behavior.

Most users who post are generally thick skinned enough to deal with some of the lighter trolling, and I don't think I've ever seen someone attack anyone personally without warrant.

The Rack Focusing case was a good example of this. Before things got really bad for him, he was warned by several users about being so arrogant and rude. No one baited him into it, but the more dickish he acted, the more people started to sink their teeth in. By the time he finally understood, the damage had already been done.

There's a bit of a difference when it's a situation of finding some random internet stranger and unleashing TWW's wraith on them.

Noen, I was a user there (PiC) too (under several aliases, because I kept getting B&, usually for screwing with the HTML whenever I got Premium, and I could get back in for free), and I actually moved here quite a while before she did, like shortly after that peer-forum shut down; we were both on another peer-forum (TCW) that shut down before that, and she...well, actually joined that forum a few days before I did (at least I think so), in Fall 2003 when it opened.

1. I join TWW in the summer of 2010, notice the Old School board, and think "welp, never getting in there, no way I'll ever be 'old' compared to the veterans"
2. slappy1 joins TWW in December 2011
3. One fine day this month, I open TWW prepared to post a webcomic or some interesting link, when I notice the last post in Old School was made by slappy1
4. I thought "wow maybe I've been let in Old School too, like it's a rolling thing that happens whenever you've been a user for more than 2 years"
5. I try to post and find I'm still not in.
6. I note this oddity in the "What are you thinking?" thread, without speculating on the reason.
7. Upon noticing a pattern of personal attacks directed at me by her, both ITT and in that thread, I decide to respond with a speculation based less on my character and more on our respective post histories.
(Oh, if you really do just credit users for history on other CrazyWeb forums and it's not just favoritism or some other arbitrary decision, plz let me in Old School)

BTW isn't it strange that slappy1's first suspicion ITT was that all the opposition to the OP was a conspiracy of sockpuppetry organized by me, as if I'm the lone "weird one" who actually thinks whatever it is I think about any issue, and all the "regular guys" on TWW obvs. thought her IRL trolling was a good idea?



P.S.: I just checked MrGreen's stats and apparently he's a 28-year-old male in Raleigh with a BSE, while I'm a 29-year-old male in Cincinnati with a BS in Mathematics; it's close enough to make even the non-conspiratorially-minded suspect he's my alt.
(Also I actually did once make an alt here but it never got activated: I got suspended early on here, and when I had no feedback on when or whether I would ever come back, I registered BilerProject after this LGBT blog I was reading frequently called the Bilerico Project, but when the owner saw I'd used the same payment method, he refunded me without activating that account and told me my suspension would end soon; I don't think I've been suspended since.)

I disagree with this part. If anything, meanness (whether to TWW users or to anonymous strangers) usually serves to vitalize TWW. Whether I agree with her actions from a moral standpoint or not, slappy is doing her part to keep this site alive.

This site is dying, rather, because so many longtime users have outgrown it and left, and not enough new users have arrived to take their place. I suppose you could make the case that meanness drives potential new users away, but TWW used to be a LOT meaner, and that never really stopped the flow of new blood.

I guess the heart of the problem is that the average age on TWW has risen steadily, so we've lost our identification with NC State (insofar as none of us are students anymore), so we're no longer as appealing to/in tune with the population of our primary recruiting ground.

Also, America is rotting, and TWW is rotting with it.

It's not that serious, broham. It is not an automatic access thing based on number or days registered (well, I think the original access grant was, and maybe one more after that). I do not have the time in my day to roll through everyone in the userbase and judge whether or not they get access to Old School. I certainly don't sit around and think to myself randomly "hmm, you know... I bet userxxxxxx could get into Old School today". So we kind of rely on the user requesting access, and we move on from there.
Had you asked, like slappy1 did, I would probably have taken into account that I remember seeing you around PIC/CB and TCW... not to mention you are out of school, and an older user, etc... but not now... not I feel like extorting your ass
