I stopped at Maurice's in Columbia one time. The bbq tasted like poor quality pork with cheap honey mustard salad dressing on it. I can't begin to describe the hushpuppies other than that they were awful.

I know you^^ are used to dumping sauce in it, and that's why yours was swimming, but that's not how its supposed to be.

And if your Lexington style bbq tasted like ketchup, that's not how it's supposed to be.

Same.

I mean, if you keep a straight face while you serve up BBQ, ribs, cole slaw, mac/cheese, and fried apples on a big ass platter, and you throw a fistful of hush puppies at me, then you've pretty much got my vote. If there's honey butter for me to smother on the greasy hush puppies, you can spit in my food and still get five stars on Yelp.

And, yes, we'd like to start with some corn fritters, please.

Now tell me about your pies.

^ piggy.

And if you eat pies at a BBQ place you're doing it wrong. Only banana pudding should be served as desert.

Maurice's hushpuppies would have been better if they didn't taste like they had been cooked almost to the point of charcoal in grease that probably had been frying fish for 2 weeks.

The best BBQ I've ever had was some my brother brought from a place somewhere down around Lake City. He said it was a rough looking place with big pictures of Obama and James Clyburn, but I've never had any bbq as good as that was. It was pretty much the same as Eastern NC style. I've got to go that way fairly soon, and I'm looking forward to stopping there.

Probably get flamed for saying this, but I remember that carolina barbeque in garner as being decent. i specifically remember them having great, if not entirely traditional, hushpuppies.

I've never understood why RO's makes this list. They have great slaw burgers (so I've heard, I don't eat them), but their BBQ, which comes minced, is horrendous. They don't even have their own sauce. They give you little heinz bbq packs.

So put RO's on a list of good places to get slawburgers. Not good places to get BBQ.

Come down to old time barbeque. The owner will berate you to leave if you don't choke down his shitty, overpriced food fast enough for his liking.

That BBQ is ok. It's not the worst I've had, not the best. But it is worth coming in and hearing him berate fratboys that have overstayed their welcome.

Has that always been a thing? I used to eat there all the time, years ago, and was never asked to leave. Maybe I eat fast?

They have their own slaw, which is pretty dope.

'Ol time has dry fried chicken and ok BBQ. Decent sauce. Good place to buy a pig tho.

Short Sugars in Reidsville is the only non- eastern style that I've liked. It's a sweet sauce.
