Donaldson needs two game days off over the next month, preferably against two dominant righties. He's completely exhausted. Darvish is this week and I think we will see Scherzer early July. 6/16/2014 2:39:15 PM |

yeah, but srsly we can handle reddick's loss with kyle blanks and billy burns waiting in the wings. what we really need though is starting pitchers.
We were lucky when Pomerantz steeped up to fill the Parker/Griffin void. Now he's done til ~Sept? A's SP ERA has soared recently and I begin to worry about burnout... or at least every game becoming a slugfest here lately. Earlier this year, we were beating teams 5+ to 2- most games...

This was as colossal a regular season loss as it can get, but it's just that, regular season. The lingering issue is that Anaheim is not too far behind and given how well the A's have played it should be more. Seattle is also capable of putting some W's together but I don't expect that to last though it could. This team is on pace to win 100 and no one is comfortable about even winning the division.
Detroit is in a AAA division and they will be there in October and Oakland has some winning to do to even get that far. Any postseason success goes through Detroit, you'd have to be blind to see that. Team needs to face that reality and soon. Has any Oak-Det game been decided in the first 7 innings at all recently? 7/1/2014 9:53:09 AM |

Sure, it's risky, but I think it's a great trade. If the A's ever want to advance past the ALCS, they've got to ramp up their pitching rotation. It's been good for as long as I can remember, but it has to get even better.

Hate to see the prospects go because we always need hitting, but I am o.k. With this trade. We are in a good position this year and Beane decided to go for it. With pomeranz being dumb and breaking his hand, and gray and Chavez starting to struggle some, hopefully this gives us a goo pd shot in the arm. 7/5/2014 8:52:31 PM |

Big sweep of Toronto to get back on track after the Doolittle catastrophe which led to the bad week in Detroit. The A's now have a three headed October monster in Gray-Kaz-Shark that can be in the same conversation as Ver-Scher-Anibal. Of course Anaheim isn't going anywhere with their payroll. Also nice to have Pomeranz and Chaves to take the place of any of these three if worse comes to worse. Don't know much about Hamel. 7/7/2014 7:08:46 PM |

dude they are clearly the second best team in baseball - if not the best here recently. I really think that we could still easily end up a wildcard if the Angels continue to explode. They would dominate any other division, much less having to split victories with us and SEA all year. In fact, ALWest is so dominant it could srsly take both wildcards.
I could actually see SEA probably playing spoiler vs. the A's or the Angels very late in the season as they make a very legit push for that final wildcard spot as 3rd in the division...

srsly, 1.5 games behind us is nothing
even if we do win the AL West again, we're going to have to get by the Halos and/or the Tigers in the playoffs somehow. They are such starpower-heavy clubs, one or two key late season injuries could punch our ticket to the WS. If either of these clubs stays at practically 100% health like they are now, then its going to be a nailbiter... 7/14/2014 8:03:39 PM |

I know it's still early, but this is by far the best A's team we've had in the past three seasons. 2012 had hitting and 'magic', last year was really solid pitching/defense, this year everything (aside from some blown saves) seems to be coming together more cohesively. I'm honestly not seeing a better opportunity to make a WS run. 2014 or bust. And fucking Cespedes wins the HR derby again. 7/15/2014 1:12:19 AM |

Really want to get a custom A's Beane jersey. Beating the $/media odds so consistently (despite also making some bad moves) is probably the most amazing part. I wonder if we can hire him at NC State?

Yeah Cespy! Back to back A's HR derby champ - wow I'm just glad he only hit 3 in round1 so that JD got to at least be in a swingoff. Ya gotta wonder if he will ever have another year quite this good again. But you know this won't be Cespy's last derby (probably many without the A's ahead once his price balloons).

His price won't go up until he can consistently bat .270. .248 with a cannon in left is nice, but not going to get a Yanks/Boston type deal anytime soon I don't think. Havn't looked at his current deal, but I think hes at 8-9m through 2016. He's overpaid based off that.

Hammel is garbage. Why Johnson even plays anymore is beyond a mystery to me. It was nice to see some fight in the A's last night though. Down 7-1 early, but they came back and never felt completely out of it until that ninth inning homer. Oh well. At least LAA lost to the M's too. Looking forward to another Sonny afternoon at O.co in a bit

Is Pomeranz going to come back and take Hammel's spot? Milone is obviously better than Hammel too.....Out of the ten teams outside of the AL West in the AL, only two have a higher winning % than the 3rd place team in the AL West. 7/21/2014 8:53:32 AM |

^crazy how good ALwest is this year after being relatively weak vs. others in prior years (especially ALeast).
Reading the blogs, etc - sounds like Pomeranz could be ready towards the end of this month to pitch again in minors. Milone is already healthy and could be called up anytime to replace Hammels. There is also a chance we could have Jarrod Parker back for the playoffs if his TG surgery recovery goes well 7/21/2014 1:21:18 PM |

NCSUMEB All American 2530 Posts user info edit post |
^ He should be. He's a major league pitcher and would be a lot of team's third man in the rotation. Hammel should get one more start and then things need to be reevaluated. Trading Hammel for a second baseman doesn't help Milone out unless that involves Sogard being sent down. Vogt is also playing lights out, can't send him down. Reddick called up today, Parrino down. Callaspo also will be back soon. Don't know who's getting sent down when that happens, Frieman? 7/22/2014 4:50:48 PM |
UJustWait84 All American 25821 Posts user info edit post |
eh, just because he 'wants' to get traded, doesn't mean it's actually going to happen. the A's were wise to send him down to AAA and weigh their options. Milone is great at home, but not so much on the road.
