I don't know about Europe, but there is far better meat (beef) to be had in Argentina, Japan, and Australia.

I have a similar conversation time to time...if I could pick just one food ethnicity to eat for the rest of my life which would it be?
My feeling is that in that situation if I am worried about getting staying in shape I would pick Japanese. If I'm not worried about getting fat, I go Mexican 5/6/2014 2:47:16 PM

Baked beans are very common with meals in England. In fact, as odd as it may seem to Americans, baked beans are often served with breakfast. Obviously I'm biased but aside from [culturally] you may not be used to having beans with eggs, what is so nasty about that? Sure it isn't exactly a gourmet meal but most authentic/home-cooked meals aren't. 5/6/2014 3:16:46 PM

Yeah but how expensive it is there? Particularly Japan & Australia. What good is high quality beef if I can't often afford it. 5/6/2014 3:20:14 PM

^Everything in Australia is expensive, not just the meat. I did have a kangaroo steak while I was there though and it was very tasty! Kangaroo meat is actually one of the cheaper meats there since kangaroos don't have any natural predators and their population will get really high if they aren't hunted. 5/6/2014 3:23:23 PM

FWIW you can get a 3 course steak dinner for two and a bottle of Malbec in Argentina for around $25. I was there in January and the conversion rate was something crazy like 11:1 if you knew where to go. 5/6/2014 5:25:12 PM

Put me down for Argentina. Definitely a flair of Italian and Spain as mentioned but their beef is better than anything you'll find in Europe. 5/6/2014 5:35:42 PM

if you don't think japan has the best beef, its only because of your lack of education/experience.

i wonder how much that steak costs at the butcher's shop, and how much in a restaurant. any ideas?
my guess, $100-$150 in the shop, $300-$500 at a restaurant.

I'd certainly try a steak like that, and I'm sure it would be super tender. But generally speaking, too much fat for me.

fat has more to do with flavor than anything. tenderness is a separate issue. i'll take a well-marbled ribeye or strip steak any day over a filet, but that's just me. if you really want tender, ahi tuna steaks win in my book. 5/7/2014 2:42:37 AM

Honest question here: Why is bacteria and stuff that can get you sick more common in raw beef than fish? People over here have no trouble eating raw fish in sushi but I don't see a raw beef trend catching on any time soon. 5/7/2014 9:23:05 AM

I'll say US, for variety, like everybody else said. Benin mistrusts foreign cuisine (although it has gleefully incorporated foreign plants and animals into its diet over the past centuries), and it's the worst part about living here.
Peru had a really good food scene as well, at least Lima/Cuzco. Some of the best Chinese and Japanese food I've had, and the native Peruvian stuff ranged from the decent (potatoes all the time!) to the quite excellent (ceviche) 5/7/2014 10:57:22 AM

this is a factory farm problem and not a beef problem. the cows are fed things that they are not supposed to eat and have explosive diarrhea that they then bathe in all day. When they are slaughtered and chopped up, the layer of e-coli and other bacteria associated with explosive diarrhea get mixed in with the meat.
Kobe Wagyu and other forms of cow are only really propaganda here in the US. Over there, its just another way to raise cattle. 5/7/2014 3:47:39 PM

this is not entirely true. if you find the right places, or order in chinese, you can get a lot of traditional chinese foods.
It is important to note that china being such a large country, has a ton of different styles of food. crops that can only grow in certain parts of the country. Just like anywhere, the foods at an authentic restaurant don't have to be the "country" "soul" or "everyday" foods of that nation. 5/7/2014 3:51:41 PM

I have been to:
Italy (Naples, Rome) France (Marsielle, Grasse, Monaco, Paris, Niece, Cannes) Greece (Rhodes, Crete) Bahrain Dubai
Food in Greece was by far my favorite not to mention, the people were way nicer.
I would put France next then Dubai (only because the food I had there wasn't native, but it was so goooood)
Italy was okay. Pizza was the best there by a LONG SHOT.
I was never a big seafood eater till I moved to Washington state and I love going to Seattle and eating all the seafood I can get.

If you're not talking about native cuisine, than the US for sure because we have everything.
Native US food? Low-country cuisine ftw.

I studied abroad in China for a summer. The only thing you would ever recognize from an American Chinese menu that I saw there was Peking Duck and Kung Pao Chicken - though I had both of these in Beijing (formerly Peking) and they could have been catering to an American crowd. In general though, I was not at all a fan of traditional Chinese food at all.
