About 6 months. It was a temp job, which was about the best I could find right out of school in 2009.

A little over three years after grad school and funding for my job was slashed (on-site gov't contractor). I may have been able to stick around but I didn't risk and found another one. Been at my current job since the beginning of 2013.

Graduated this past December, worked part-time (for a twwer actually) for 3.5 months, then took a real job that lasted about 5 months. The company did a lay-off of about 40% of my section and gave the rest of us the old job duties with no raises. I got an offer elsewhere almost immediately and was gone in less than 3 weeks. (I would have been in the next lay-off for sure if it came)

So I guess either 3.5 months or 5 months

2 years. Was given a raise of $0.15 per hour due to their "market research" showing I was underpaid.

Left for the big city and moved farther away, but got a salary bump of $18K. Been there 3 months and I was made lead GC of my section (more of a leadership role but I am thinking it will lead to a nice raise next year).

WORTH IT

2 years and a month. Considering it was a "part-time full-time" job with a shitty salary and no benefits, about 2 years longer than I should have. It was essentially the same job I had while in school, just 40 hours instead of 15-20.

Inertia sucks. Don't do that. It affected my overall salary for a long time, given that I should have been up and out of there well before the end of the year, even in a poor job market (2002).

I took the job in grad school but after I graduated I was there another 10 months. I told my manager about the other opportunity and he encouraged me to take it since there wasn't much further I could go there. I've been at that job ever since.
