I believe the 3rd entry in Urban Dictionary is the correct one from that website:
Quote : | "3. Gym Dick A person who has a large flaccid penis who is not shy to flaunt it in a gym locker room. The guy next to me loves to walk around with his "gym dick"" |

okay, that makes sense. I see the connection to "gym" now. I was kinda imagining "gym dick" to mean "dick worn out by exercise" or something like that, like "whiskey dick." but the "gym" doesn't even describe anything, really, except to say that it's big.

And fuck this, "this guy wouldn't be getting the sale if it weren't for the engineers". The engineers wouldn't have the fucking job if there weren't people to sell it." |
In the past five years there was a lot of talk of sales people being useless and if you design a brilliant product it sells itself. A lot of engineers bought into this and are showered with perks and talk of being rocks stars. This leads to an inflated sense of self and they just get a little butt hurt when they find out the sales engineer pulls in $500K and gets the same perks they do.
There are engineering driven companies where engineers make $300K+ all the way up to more money than god, but if there is a need for sales, like at Google, I bet sales still makes more. 10/8/2014 2:30:12 PM

This is what you call poor management.
If your manager grew a brain he would realize there will be less friction and more collaboration in the office if the compensation plan aligned with the companies goals for all employees. (salespeople and engineers working together) Cutting the engineers in on the commissions or sales bonuses would solve this problem completely and also not be illegal.
Most people know that cook-out has a blazing fast and accurate drive through, but they do not know that cook-out employees receive profit sharing and are generally paid better than other fast food workers. Amazing how that works. Every person in the building receives more money the more money the company makes, as a result things get done faster and better. ![](images/beatup.gif) 10/8/2014 3:38:00 PM

[NO]
There are plenty of people making that kind of money at that age. I know someone whose good/bad years were probably double that at that age.

No employee should be required to compensate another employee out of his or her personal income. Compensation, is what the company provides to its employees in return for their time and skills.
If the company's intent is to share the wealth with engineers after a sale is made to reward their contribution, then the sales team should allocate a portion of their revenue to an operating budget to distribute those funds.
If this is one of those things that the sales people started doing as a personal thank you, and then evolved into an unwritten rule, then the 'tradition' is already ruined by your manager enforcing it and the assumption that they're going to get something extra for doing their jobs.
your manager is a shitty boss, and should be giving you air cover if he is reacting to shit that he received from someone else. 10/9/2014 5:23:08 PM
