"Let's see. Little Head Ced relied mostly on put backs and transition dunks to get his stat line and was mostly touted as a defensive stopper as opposed to an offensive juggernaut. His speed and athleticism was a huge plus, but he never developed more than slams and put backs. Hence, he is playing in Turkey right now.

You have a bad memory.

Ced's game vs Duke and Sheldon Williams basically made him a 1st round pick alone, IIRC.

^^Does he? Outside of the Duke game, what game did Ced show an all around game outside of dunks and blocks?

"I think our defense will be strong this year. Either that or our offense sucks."

I saw a tremendous amount of standing around from both offenses and generally nothing being done to help isolate guys or get open under the basket. Our offense couldn't get anything going because no one would move.

The optimist in me wants to believe the problem is just that our team knows how our team plays and can defend it well... But honestly I'm worried that we're not going to have the offense to win the big games.

based on pack pride lurking it seems "sources" are a lot higher on cat and a freshman abu than I am, and I still have no evidence as to why they feel that way

Sorry there aren't a lot of Ced Simmons highlights from 2005 on the internet.

He wasn't Josh Powell in his last year, but he had a lot more offensive game than Anya. And sorry that almost dropping 30 on a first team AA and future NBA player wasn't enough to show you that Ced had a pretty good offensive game.

HigHLIghts from the scrimmage

(please keep in mind these are highlights, from a scrimmage, at the beginning of the season... and therefore there is little set-plays or defense.

yeah, sophomore year ced was a solid offensive player. and that's impressive considering how raw he still was. i mean his freshman year it looked like he'd never seen a basketball compared to most other guys on the court.

this makes me want to sign into AIM, where my profile still says "copy and paste this in your profile if you know someone who has been hurt or died from a cedric simmons block" or something like that, along with a wingding ambulance.

apparently the played this video at throwback with the pack the other night...nothing too special, but it's about 2 minutes of a few highlights from the reynolds era.

^ Must have missed that on Friday.

I wish our athletic dept would put together a full documentary just on Reynolds before all the people who played there when we were good end up going senile.

^That would be really cool.

And somebody tweeted that video saying "if you weren't at Reynolds on Friday night you missed this" so I assume they meant it was played on the video board...maybe not

Did they ever say why David Thompson and Tommy Burleson didn't attend? The biggest reason I went was to see DT and TB play in Reynolds...

Not sure about Burleson, but I heard DT's wife was/is sick.

I recall reading something on PP about Tommy's wife battling a chronic illness

[Edited on October 22, 2014 at 3:30 PM. Reason : ^haha, or maybe it was DT's wife]

You went to see 2 60-something year old men play basketball? Really?

Have you seen Tommy Burleson? He isn't going to wow anyone with his court skills nowadays.

it'd still be more entertaining than a Herb/Sid team

Burleson was interviewed by the radio guys a few weeks back and it sounded like he's got a lot on his plate these days up in Ashe County, which isn't the easiest place to get to Raleigh from. Apparently he's in charge of a couple charities up there.
