Drinking some liquid shit instead of eating delicious food doesn't make sense either, but why fight it 8/18/2015 10:51:00 PM |

I have had v1.4 a few times a week for quite a while now, and it's been helpful to me as a quick and easy meal in situations where I normally would just eat an apple and call it lunch. I often neglect to feed myself properly when I'm hungry but in the middle of something, and that leads to oversnacking later in the day. Soylent is a convenient way for me to get good nutrition and avoid that pitfall; it does produce plenty of satiety in me, so I feel fine until dinner.
I ordered some v1.5 a few weeks ago, just after v2.0 was announced, but it hasn't arrived yet. I'm not particularly interested in the v2.0 product. I'm also not sure how my Soylent consumption will change once I start running and playing racquetball frequently again and my metabolism adapts, but for now, it suits my habits and schedule. 8/22/2015 11:00:50 PM |

Does drinking some soylent instead of eating an apple satisfy your lunch appetite? I think even Noen should acknowledge an apple is healthier. 8/23/2015 12:02:09 AM |

It does, which I didn't really expect. I'm not a nutritionist, so I won't adjudicate whether one is healthier than another, but Soylent has a balanced range of nutrients and macros, and a full serving has more calories than an apple. So it personally works better for me than having an apple for lunch, because my general assessment is that I should be consuming more calories for lunch than an apple provides (if only for the reason that the apple often leads to having less healthy, higher-calorie snacks in the late afternoon). 8/23/2015 2:14:10 AM |

You can't compare an apple with a serving of Soylent. An apple just provides sugar and fiber. Soylent is a full meal with carbs, fiber, fat, and protein. So which one is healthier? Comparison can't be made. You can ask that same question if talking about a balanced sandwich as it is a complete meal, but a not a piece of fruit.
As for which one will keep a person fuller, I would say Soylent, for reasons explained above. 8/23/2015 6:00:20 PM |

^^^ As disgusted as I was by that video, I couldn't stop watching it... it was mesmerizing!
Crazy Japanese
^ I guess, but I think it is more for people who don't know how to, and also those who lead a very busy lifestyle and at the end of the day don't have the strength or desire to.

I still have some left that I drink on occasion for breakfast. My best description is it tastes like liquid cheerios. The problem is it typically gives me pretty noxious gas and or the shits. 11/4/2016 1:27:09 PM |

I was going to BTTT this in about a week because I have bought a week's supply of another meal replacement which I plan to start either this coming Monday or the Monday after, or maybe in the middle of next week, as soon as I finish the fresh veggies in my fridge.
I bought Huel, from http://www.huel.com
A week's supply (2,000 calories/day) is $59, as opposed to $54 for soylent (both powdered, and both subscription prices). So price was not the deciding factor, but the ingredients and nutrition facts:
Soylent: http://files.soylent.com/pdf/soylent-nutrition-facts-1-8-cacao-en.pdf
Powder - Original (v1.8)
Soy protein isolate - controversial High oleic canola oil Maltodextrin - synthetic carb, not good https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maltodextrin Isomaltulose - acceptable https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isomaltulose Soluble Corn fiber Modified food starch - another highly processed carb Xanthan gum Sucralose - artificial sweetener, not good Natural Flavor Vitamin and mineral blend
Per serving:
Calories: 400 (35:45:20 C:F) Fat: 20 g (SFA 1.5 g, PUFA 3.5 g, MUFA 14 g) Carbs: 39 g (fiber 5 g, sugars 15 g, ALL sugar added) Protein: 20 g
Huel: https://huel.com/pages/nutritional-information-and-ingredients
Unflavored & Unsweetened v1.0
Oats Pea Protein Flaxseed Brown Rice Protein Medium Chain Triglycerides (from coconut) Sunflower Oil Powder - too much PUFA Acacia Gum Guar Gum Xanthan Gum Vitamin and mineral blend
Per serving:
Calories: 500 (40:30:30 C:F) Fat: 16 g (SFA 3 g, PUFA 10 g, MUFA 4 g) Carbs: 47 g (fiber 9 g, sugars 1 g, NO sugar added) Protein: 37 g
So my only objection to Huel -- aside from the fact that I am completely opposed to the concept of meal replacements, which are highly processed by definition -- is the sunflower oil. At least they could have gone for a high oleic sunflower or safflower oil, which are much lower in PUFA and much higher in MUFA.
But all things considered, it seems to be much better, both in terms of ingredients and nutrition facts, as well as the level of processing involved. Plus, no artificial ingredients in Huel as far as I can tell.
Instead of 4 servings (to get 2,000 calories), I might only consume 3 or 3.5 per day at least on some of the days when I am not that active.
Will report back when I start and then give daily updates. 4/7/2018 8:21:38 PM |

Started my Huel meal replacements today, just a few minutes ago.
Have enough for a week.
It actually tastes nice even though it is the unsweetened version, like drinking oatmeal and there is also a pronounced flaxseed taste. It is real food, unlike Soylent.
Will report back any changes I observe in any of my physiology or functioning.
See ^^^ for a detailed comparison between Soylent and Huel. 4/29/2018 1:35:52 PM |

I can't do Soylent because I'm too hungry after drinking one still. So I just drank 400 liquid calories and then have to eat a snack. 4/29/2018 2:22:16 PM |

The goal should be to replace a meal on the go. Like if you are at lunch and don't have time to stop working, you can just pop out one of these and keep going. Don't replace real food but replace any situation where you would otherwise resort to fast food or instant noodles. 4/29/2018 3:47:34 PM |

I am just experimenting with my body to see what having liquid meal replacements for a week does.
^ Check my detailed comparison I did. I see 2 whole foods in Huel, but none in Soylent. 4/29/2018 6:37:25 PM |

Man, I am loving this stuff! Since I got the unsweetened version, I also bought a packet of "flavor boost":
https://huel.com/collections/flavor-boosts
I got banana, but damn, it tastes like banana bubblegum, and not in a good way, as it makes the drink bitter. The flavor boosts are unsweetened, so whatever artificial flavor it has is bitter. Waste of $9.
But, I love the plain Huel as is, which I thought I wouldn't as I never liked plain oatmeal, but this stuff is the bomb! Has an earthy/wheaty taste, with a lot of flaxseed flavor. Delicious!
Have had 3 today (500 cal each), will have a 4th one soon. I am also doing IF at the same time, consuming all 2,000 calories 1-9 pm.
So far so good... yes, there is hunger/emptiness, but energy levels are good, and after just one day, a longstanding serious GI issue seems to have been resolved, so I am very happy with that.
The best thing is, I spend 15 minutes a day making my food, and consumption is concomitant with my work/job/whatever I am dong, so no time spent there either. 4/30/2018 9:15:03 PM |
