unless the dog was actually attacking them, and killing them was the only way to stop the attack, i most certainly would think that only a shitty person would shoot a pet pit bull, rotweiller, etc (or even a wild one).. but i ain't going to argue with you, you've proven yourself as a shitty person and a hypocrite, time and time again on tww. 4/20/2015 9:49:56 AM

First 2 scratches on my jeep were from a cat.
Not a big fan of cats outdoors.
Sad thing is both my cat's were feral cats (very much indoor cats now)
and sadly if she shot one of my dogs (who would be in my 6' fence) i would not respond favorably or rationally.
If an officer shot my dog in my back yard.. i'd be livid but i wouldn't know how to handle it. 4/20/2015 11:52:36 AM

I hate cats.
One of my neighbors lets her cat roam freely in our neighborhood. The goddamn cat climbs on our outdoor furniture and dirties up the cushions. Dirt, hair, and some blood.
I have an old Tommy Armour 845 7 iron I keep near the door. I've come close to cracking it's skull wide open.
I want to leave some antifreeze on the back deck but my wife is dead set against it.
I fucking hate cats. I hate rats and mice too. But cats don't need to climb up on my shit. 4/20/2015 12:40:07 PM

my parents have a couple of outdoor cats. i can't recall ever coming across any cat shit outside - and i do plenty of yard work for them. they do climb on my car when i'm over there. that doesn't bother me, though. my parents live in a rural area, surrounded by woods...no real neighbors. i'm sure if they lived in a subdivision they wouldn't have outdoor cats.
growing up we never had inside cats. anytime a cat got inside they'd scratch shit up. inside cats suck. i also don't really like pets in general, though.

No. Even if you kill off an entire colony of feral cats, members of another colony--often the weaker ones--will move in for the resources and begin breeding until they also reach capacity. You can keep killing them, but they will keep breeding. It's been a problem since the 1800s, and they've found the best way to manage them is T-N-R. The original cats are neutered/spayed, but then they remain in the area, doing their obnoxious cat thing, of course...but they do less aggressive stuff, don't breed, and prevent new cats from taking over.
I wouldn't expect you or I to understand this intuitively, but I would expect a veterinarian to have their minds around that concept.

I used to have a sandbox as a kid and had one for my kids when they were younger. Often we would dig up cat shit in there. I don't know as much about the cat shit in the yard thing but if you have a sandbox for your kids, try to get one with a cover to keep them out of it. Otherwise it will become the communal kitty litter box. 4/20/2015 1:39:22 PM

Our attempts to reach Lindsey were not successful.

Eh...I see your point. But I think if you feed a cat, take it to the vet regularly, and it spends every night at your house...just because you let it out to roam the neighborhood a little bit doesn't make it a stray. There's a well-to-do family across the street from me that does this with it's two cats.
Now if the cat starts shitting my yard and/or fucking with my garden, then I'll say something to the family. But we have plenty of strays downtown, so their impact is negligible. 4/21/2015 9:28:12 AM

I grew up on a dead-end road in a rural subdivision, and everyone in the neighborhood had roaming dogs that hung around when we played football, built forts, played war in the woods, camped, walked to the bus stop... it was awesome. We also had a cat that we spayed, fed, took to the vet that never came inside the house. And that was in a neighborhood. This "outside" cat appears to live on a large farm. 4/21/2015 9:37:10 AM

I grew up with an outdoor cat who made it from Creedmoor Rd to Lake Crabtree (his original owner said if he made it that far, he must have wanted to live with us. he did for 15 years )
nearly certain that there was never an issue with him shitting in anyones yard, and had anybody hunted him, that would have been a pretty traumatic experience
I also grew up in a family of hunters who never in a million years would shoot and kill a cat who was roaming around. if they ever had a problem with any animal, they'd just shoot it in the ass with a bb gun.

Fear of things being taken away from them, perception of threats, wariness of change. If you understand how those three affect the mentality of certain posters here, you'll understand why someone's animal can't be in their yard. It's all fear-based mentality.
