Overheard this gem

But it's cooold

Was tempted to get one of the soft coolers, until I opened the zipper, reached inside, and left a sleeve of arm skin inside the cooler as the zipper teeth tore the flesh from my appendage.

you have to get the Yeti Gauntlets (sold separately) to avoid having your arm mutilated for a cold one. I've been pushing the ends together to get it to open wider. Seems to work.

Probably worth it to check out the Ozark trail stuff from wal mart. The cups are identical and I would assume the coolers are made the same.

this is the most confusing part to me, i've never had a beer get warm before i finish it with even the most basic koozie and super insulated tumblers keep coffee hot for way too long.

i've never woken up with a desire to make coffee but not drink any of it until the afternoon

Yeah I've never even felt the need for a beer koozie. The one exception for coffee is when doing some outdoor cold weather activity I like to keep a large thermos of coffee with some type of whisky or Irish cream in my backpack. Makes for good sipping throughout the day.

^^That's silly. Why would I want warm hands on a hot summer day? I grab a nice cold beer because it not only cools me down but feels nice in my hands. I usually associate koozies with people who drink beer very slowly or who don't enjoy the feel of a nice cold beer.

the only real "functional" koozies are the old school thick ones. They prevent your beer from tipping over on the beach and getting sand all over it.

No I hold the beer like a man. The beer never gets below freezing. What's the issue?

I'm just saying if it's 100 out and I'm sitting by the pool having a nice cold beer in my hand is great. Why ruin it by putting a layer of foam between said beer and my hand?

Just because synapse can't handle the feeling of a cold beer doesn't mean other people can't.

That was one scenario. IF I'm sitting by a fire and it's 35 out I still like having a cold beer in my hand because the fire is hot. Would you like every IF scenario? In general I typically don't like using a koozie.

TreeTwista10 brought up a good exception. If I'm on a boat or floating in a lake then it's nice to have an insulator so the lake water doesn't immediately warm the beer.

Something like this haha:

Ski resort hot tub protocol

Well on the ski lift I usually always have gloves on and you're chugging the beer in the 7 minutes it takes to get to the top of the lift. In the hot tub it's nice to have a cold beer to cool your hands because you're hot from the hot tub.

I would say each scenario is different. I didn't miss to diss the koozie overall. I personally rarely use one. Of course other people have situations where they might prefer or benefit from one. I just wouldn't lure synapse to troll me unless I made a blanket statement about koozies. Soon I'll have enough data to put together a response time metric so we can score him under/over whenever he responds.

I'm on the side of those who like to hold their beer bottle with bare hands in the winter. It's nice to drink a beer while standing in a giant fridge.

I think we all chug light beers, but it is nice to sip on a $6 high falutin beverage.

Seriously, people have a thing against koozies? Like, I'm judged by someone if you see me hanging outside my house with a koozied beer in my hand?

^^Which would be very appropriate in a thread about $400 coolers. As I recall I commented on my cheap ass Igloo cooler on page 1 which I find very appropriate as well.

^Yeah because then I can't judge you because I don't know what beer you're drinking so I assume it's a cheap beer.

So I actually just bought some Croakies because I realized when shooting it's much easier to just let your sun glasses dangle around your neck then try and find a place for them. Super handy.

Does anyone have any experience with an RTIC cooler? They're a lot cheaper, and look like they hold up just as well.

From what I understand they're a straight rip off of Yeti made in China. Yeti is a good company out of Austin and most of their coolers are made in the US. I can't speak to the difference in quality but if you're in it just for the cooler then i'm sure it's fine.

Pelican I heard is a notch above Yeti in terms of performance.

Field and stream did a big consumer reports style comparison of the various cooler brands and I think Pelican was near the bottom. Cabelas house brand cooler was number 1.
