I mean, that's just a function of Asheville being smaller than Raleigh. Asheville may have 21 breweries, but Raleigh has 16 breweries within and right around it. And that number swells to over 30 if you include Durham and Chapel Hill.

Bottom line is both have enough options to the point that it really doesn't matter.

Usually the measure is breweries per capita and Asheville wins by far. Still not much compared to like Portland or Denver but it's getting up there.

I think there's more than 250 breweries in Colorado. Probably 100 of those in the Denver metro area.

Yes but it's way more fun to go to a local brewery and get that breweries special / limited beers on draft. Most decent ones will have at least a few limited editions on draft. Plus you can get cheap growlers. The whole craft beer scene is pretty cool. Much better than just going to a bar and ordering a random beer.

Not really. Most are out of state investors or people moving to Denver. We get a lot of people from the west coast that sell their 1.5M house and buy 3 500k houses in Denver. Had a long discussion with an agent at a party a few weekends ago and she said the market is flooded with out of state people moving to Denver with lots of $$$.

I agree local craft brews are the win, but you can't judge a market by that alone. Bottle shops are popping up all over now allowing you to get craft brews from all over the country. It may not be that special test keg the brewmaster has chilling in the back, but its still better than being limited to what the local BW3's is slinging.

Oh I agree and if buying beer for home or a party I usually hit up the corner liquor store that usually has a huge selection of craft beer from all over but if I want to go out for beer then I prefer a brewery over a bar if my intention is trying out new beer.

Haha did anyone say that was criteria for choosing a place to live? I moved there for work. The great beer selection and numerous outdoor activities was a plus. Legalized marijuana is cool but I don't really partake that much anymore. More of a novelty when people come to town. Although the wide selection of edibles are nice.

^^ Its just icing on the cake for an already great place to live. Honestly, I would have a tough time living in a place that has zero or weak local breweries. Trying new, fresh local beers is probably one of my favorite things to do. Add in a cool place to hang out where you can take your dog and catch a game...pretty much perfect. Being in a beer desert would be tough.

This. After a long hike or day of skiing heading to a brewery with an outdoor patio and food truck where you can take your dog is the best.

There's everything you can imagine. Candy, baked goods, energy drinks, truffles, oils, etc. Usually pretty overwhelming when you walk into a store for the first time. My favorite are the 10 mg hard candy packs of 3. Each piece is roughly ~3-4mgs so you can take one and get a very slight buzz going. Much better than eating a home made brownie and being glued to the couch for 6 hours. They're great for shows.

You don't need to live in Colorado to get drugs...just know someone who works in a restaurant. My old boss use to bake edibles in the restaurant kitchen on my Tuesday night shifts. I got brownies for keeping quiet.

Yeah but it's nice to know you can go to any store like it's a Starbucks and have a huge selection of dosage labeled products that are more or less consistent most of the time. Plus it's much cheaper. I'm always wary of homemade brownies because you never know how much is in them.

That is just crazy. Its a shame it's not like that everywhere. Also makes you wonder when and if it will take hold in the rest of the country.

Kinda been tossing this idea around more. Asheville is too far away from family for me, Raleigh is too far away for the wife to keep her (pretty fucking awesome) job. What about living between Greensboro and Winston?

Line of thinking is I could drive east to CH/Durham/Jordan Lake for an hour or so and be in the new hot spot for my career (project manager for residential construction), she could drive west to be able to keep all of her accounts serviced.

At most an hour and some change away from family in Cary and WF. Area seems like real estate is pretty cheap, not a huge fan of Greensboro but I'm sure there are nice areas.

Yeah, Stokesdale/Oak Ridge/Summerfield, basically the areas north of Greensboro/Kernersville and NW of W-S. As for W-S, southern Forsyth/northern Davidson might be best...I'm not a huge fan of the areas north of of the city (Rural Hall, King, etc.) but I guess those are options. The western side of Winston also might work (Clemmons, Lewisville, perhaps areas in Mt. Tabor & Pfafftown?) as well.
