^^ It's not the direct comparison of golf clubs to a bike...it's the comparison of the overall cost of the hobby. Yes...there are several thousand dollars bikes (and several thousand dollar sets of golf clubs)...and while you will find outliers on the cheap and expensive side of both activities, the majority of people who golf pay more to enjoy that hobby than the majority of people who bike.

You can't compare the cost of a bicycle and cycling to golf clubs. A bicycle is a one time investment. You don't have to pay to use the bicycle.

Those golf clubs? You have to pay to use them anywhere. Driving Ranges, public courses, private country clubs, everything associated with golf costs money. And most of them are expensive.

The biggest similarity between these two hobbies is you can easily measure your dick based on how expensive your equipment is. So talking about which hobby is more inexpensive is meaningless.

Anyone I know that is into golf for "networking reasons" isn't going to be caught dead with a bag of $200 clubs, the same is true for cycling and riding a Dick's sporting goods bike. Some network to build genuine relationships, most are just looking for someone to do something for them and whipping out a brand new over-priced club or rolling up on a bike that you've barely tapped the potential of sends up a flag to all the other peacocks that you may have something to offer them.

Some people just really suck at golf or hate it(this is me) or needed something that fit their brand better (green industries) and cycling is a logical choice.


Granted not everyone takes up golf or cycling just to network, and in my experience money is less of an issue with these folks.

i play golf to network all the time, very few people have particularly nice clubs, most people are more interested in what beer you brought. I have mediocre clubs and it has not been an issue a single time, some people even borrow/rent/share clubs.

Uh in this case I'm going to say no. Downhill mountain biking is a very popular sport. Whether it's via a shuttle or at a ski resorts it's a huge hobby and the resorts are packed with people taking lifts for downhill mountain biking. Even if you own your own bike you'll be paying for the lift or a shuttle.

Similar to resort skiing paying for a lift isn't required but you get more downhill time in.

So there's a big golf course in Vail I pass all the time. It's at ~10k feet I think. I hear your ball goes much further and you have to account for it. I'm surprised it's not heated in the winter so people can play year round (all the streets in Vail are heated so no snow/ice) develops on them.

Eh depends who you talk to. A lot of my friends say resort skiing is an outlier as they laugh at people who pay to ski when you can go in the mountains and ski for free where ever you want just like you can go mountain biking anywhere that allows biking. I think the problem here is everyone is trying to make generalizations about certain outdoor activities and I've been simply trying to bring up another perspective from somewhere else in the country.

Eh I don't know I've met a lot of people at the climbing gym and popular outdoor climbing sites. Half the time you're literally standing around belaying someone talking about climbing strategy. Climbers are known for being nice and sociable. I've met bankers, programmers, entrepreneurs, professional athletes all at the gym. Outside of drinking activities it's a great place to network. Not to mention popular gyms have networking activities all the time...beer socials, climbing classes, etc.

The best networking spot I've found is the hot tub at the Vail Marriott. Over the past few years I've made numerous connections in the software sales world as everyone always uses their points to stay for free at the resorts. Lots of drinking involved obviously.

I'll make it easy for synapse. INSUFFERABLE!!!

Why are they stupid positions to take? All I said was it depends who you talk to. Not everyone skis in resorts or golfs at expensive clubs. I also know many people who downhill mountain bike at resorts. It's a very popular sport. I'm just pointing out that there are other options for outdoor sports many that are free. You guys need to learn how to think outside the box sometimes.

I never said anything I said was in the statistical majority. I was just bringing up a different way of approaching a sport. You guys don't always have to do things the way everyone else does them. Life gets boring if you just do what everyone else does.

Haha BobbyDigital is spot on although I don't like Football. I do watch some fütbol though. For me it's more fun if there's some disruption brought to the topic with some outliers (e.g. downhill mountain biking or back country skiing). It's always more fun and makes it a little more interesting in my opinion. I realize it's extremely annoying sometimes. My new goal is to be less insufferable just for you guys.
