I had someone bring their mom with her to sell us cutco knives when I was in HS. Bitch never came around until she needed something...gave my mom the guilt line, " help your own people out".
Bought this fucking spreader and a paring knife for 100 bucks. [image]http://hhttps://d17u1h4pee53w6.cloudfront.net/products/1000/spatula-spreader.jpg[/image] 8/25/2016 12:39:13 AM |

that makes me even more glad that I never went through with it
if I palmed a $100 spreading knife off on a friend (or anyone, really) 15 years ago, that would still be rankling my conscience. 8/25/2016 1:56:48 AM |

I used to date a girl that got swindled into selling sex toys. I think it was Passion Parties, where she would host these parties for women at their house, and sell them dildos, lubes, oils, toys, vibes, etc. The hook was in order to be able to sell their products, you had to purchase the products in order to demo them (about $300). Additionally, you needed to place 10 orders a year to stay "current " with the products.
I could not convince this girl that it was just a big marketing scheme. She said it was about independence for her. Silly ho 11/8/2016 12:54:42 PM |

It's funny people don't realize that if everyone recruited 3 people, they could only go 16 levels before the entire country were part of the scheme.
MLMs are for people too lazy or risk averse to try and actually run a business. 11/8/2016 5:25:55 PM |

I think they're more predatory than that. I mean, John Oliver's takedown was decent, but I don't think he went nearly far enough with his criticism.
And they're so pervasive that it's hard to speak out against them without insulting someone or their mother or whatever. 11/8/2016 6:57:10 PM |

I know several women who make decent living ( one person I know makes over 100K), why they would want to do this? Maybe it's a good way to meet people? Make new friends? And, I guess the location conferences look cool and exciting and they're just drawn by the social aspects of MLM. 11/8/2016 7:23:14 PM |

guy i used to work with (he retired) is with his wife at a convention for one of these schemes. Plexus i think it is. i still don't understand how decent, smart folks get roped into this shit. i realize some folks do make money at it, but just seeing the number of folks who get hosed by these things would be enough to make me not want to take part in it.

Most of these schemes don't give you enough of a discount on the product to make money selling product, which means the person you know making a good living on it is likely getting enough people to buy the initial starter kits or whatever, with their own money then just fizzle out. I guess if you have a weakened sense of ethics, this is okay-- it's their own dumb fault for spending their own money-- but this type of work probably doesn't appeal to most decent people.5/30/2017 11:13:48 PM |

Former coworker who is morbidly obese just got on the Plexus kick and is posting about it all the time. If this helps her lose weight then good for her, but all my other teacher friends got on and off the Plexus and Body by Vi trains about two years ago. 5/31/2017 6:06:45 AM |

I was at Target a few months ago in the shitty best sellers book section. Some dude wearing a tie in his mid 20s approached me asking which books were good. My "this dude wants my butt hole" sensors started to go off, so I gave him a simple "not sure". The he asks what I do for a living and precedes to ask me to join "his company" which markets "blah blah blah". I cut him off and said not interested. I bet I missed out on a fortune. 5/31/2017 10:20:46 AM |

back when i was at State i met a guy a career fair thing...i was naive and dumb and thought he was interested in helping me find a real job. can't remember what it was, but it was something he did on the side. that was probably 3-4 years ago. being a young dumb student i must have given the guy a resume or my contact information at some point before i realized what he was getting at. i brushed the guy off once i realized it was some MLM or something along those lines and eventually forgot all about it.
anyways....he texted me (i remembered his name is the only way i remembered him at all) last week asking if i was still interested in any alternative "income streams" or something like that. i just didn't respond to him. but i can't imagine being the type of person that chases after "leads" like that...at least 3-4 year old "leads" and tries to continually shake folks down for whatever scheme he's got cooking. that just seems miserable and thoroughly unenjoyable hearing "no thanks" that many times. 5/31/2017 11:30:08 AM |

I don't get why people buy into this shit... the time and money you spend hawking this shit to people could be put into real investing and research.
I mean, I get the idea of multiple income streams, especially when you've got kids, but why get taken in by dumb shit when you can take control? 5/31/2017 8:47:05 PM |

^^I think they're seduced by the supposed ease of it all. The idea of day-trading or anything like that seems almost incomprehensibly complex from the outside, and we all know about the risk of it. I think folks think to themselves, "But this? I can sell [product]; it's something people want anyway." 6/2/2017 8:32:30 AM |

Plexus is what's blowing up all over my feed these days.
There's also one where it's a combination of working out and diet supplements. People are posting videos of their workouts and what they're eating (the product has to be in the protein or whatever shakes). Only difference I see in this one is that they don't rep the product name. They wait for people to message or comment with a "hey girl! you're crazy! what program are you doing?" or "who makes that shake? you look great!" I think it's them trying to distance themselves from the Plexus/Rodan/Essential Oils/etc by not continuously throwing the brand name out there.
And it's people that I use to have a little bit of respect for. Fucking idiots.
