^ while I find TGL to be a pretty insufferable and miserable person, I do have some unsolicited advice to offer you as you take your break. Playing Devil's Advocate with people who aren't actually interested in establishing common ground is a fool's errand. I think you have some pretty complex views and positions you're trying to out hash out, but a lot of people here are really only interested in proving how 'smart' they are.

What % of the country are white nationalists white supremacists?

1%? .33%? aka 3 or 1 million?

I honestly cant get too worked up about them because they represent such a small minority.

Having said that, there are shades of grey just like islamist extremism. You have many more who are racist but don't identify with any of these groups. What racists reaction to things like Charlottesville it would be interesting.

But who is going to go on record as a racist and give that kind of answer.

Also, this Nazi shit is the same thing as islamist extremism. All large populations have the same problems that present themselves with different names.

Hate is Hate.

The danger with the Nazi crowd is that if they get marginalized enough some will resort to violence as with terrorists. If a group of people gets rejected by society they will react poorly.

I cant tell if this spotlight on them is good for their recruitment or bad. Or their effectiveness.

I see the alt-right is the label used to encompass the right's transition into the 21st century: Milo, gamergate, some of 4chan, and PJW (https://twitter.com/PrisonPlanet). As a movement that skews younger than traditional grumpy white men that watch Fox news. By being receptive to gay rights (Milo) and technology issues they picked up people in the 18-34 demo who may even be college educated.

Whatever political consultant came up with the strategy probably won the election.

What I’ve discovered is people are so insecure about their belief structure that the slightest deviation from what they perceive as reality causes a serious internal crises. Their safe space has been challenged and their position in the left/right structure of American politics has been agitated. It’s as if no one has ever seriously questioned them before.
