Still making fundamental mistakes but loved the intensity and commitment. Good win setting us up for a fun ACC season hopefully. Would be nice to finish top 5 if we gel but I think we should be making the NCAA and top 8 from what we have seen so far.

What was with Markell Johnson tossing that Auburn player to the floor in the first half?

It seemed like it was unprovoked, and the Auburn player didn’t appear to react to it afterward, either.

Markell was 5-8 from behind the arc, and 4-9 from the FT line

^I assumed they got mutually tangled and/or the ref thought he was partially flopping. But the ref was Jamie Luckie so who the hell knows

Hope we don’t make as many stupid turnovers in the ACC because it will drive me crazy to watch. Glad to see Beverly is getting out of his mini slump in the first half and probably Daniels first big contribution of the year in the 2nd half. And oh yeah, Markell is the man.

Yeah I have no idea what was with Markell's attack on that guy. About 12 minutes in to the first half he pretty much horse-collars Auburn's number 10 Samir Doughty and unless 10 did something to Markell well before then, I didn't see any reason for it

Auburn is #1 in the country for forcing turnovers (we're #5) so all things considered, I don't think it will be the norm, although with both teams forcing so many turnovers and trying to play fast, it did look like a circus a few times.

Yeah there was a lot of pressing that led to turnovers. But also I think both teams got sloppy in transition and in the open court with some unforced turnovers. Particularly Auburn early on.

we're 51 in adjD in Kenpom. which is pretty good. i'd guess we're even better in turnover stats. keatts' defenses at UNCW didn't really rank super great (better than Gott) iirc. but they ranked higher in turnover based metrics.

i wrote up when he was hired how keatts' statistic profile at uncw professed a knowledge that he knew what he was doing - high defensive turnover rate, very low 3 point attempt rate (and this was reinforced by his offense being the opposite) ...the last team just rated poorly because they got massacred down low. i theorized this was partly schematic and wouldnt completely go away, but could be mitigated somewhat by having acc level centers instead of a 6'7 dude down low. well, we're starting a 6'6 white guy from samford...and it's still better!

i just wanted to point this out because i recall the statnerds over at that idiotic vox.com subsidiary wanted to hire some dork like tim jankovich based off one fluke season with larry browns players and that basically statnerds are useless if they dont perform a proper analysis instead of only looking at a top line number

Murray State put up 88 points on Auburn and nearly won (after only beating Evansville by 2). Clearly Auburn had no business being in the top-10, but glad we got to them while they still were. Obviously it's better for us if Auburn does well the rest of the season, but I kind of enjoy seeing them struggle.

Not surprising they didn’t blow out Murray State. That Murray State team is supposed to be pretty good, and have a point guard that is very talented. Their only loss before the Auburn game was a 6 point loss at Alabama, who are decent this year.
