State will start classes on campus on August 10th, no fall break, exams done before Thanksgiving

ND set this schedule and it seems everyone is going to follow suit.

If I were a student I'm not sure I'd dig not having any days off from early August to Thanksgiving(save for Labor Day), but having the entire month of December off would be pretty nice.

Definitely the first hurdle for college football, but still have to see if they'll open up the campuses earlier so players can get back on campus and start preseason stuff. Think I saw some coaches saying they would need at least 4 weeks to prepare for a football season, but my guess it's closer to 6 weeks.

“It was so refreshing. They just report the news. There’s no commentary. There’s no opinions. There’s no left. There’s no right,” Gundy said. "

I love the yokels in the replies of the players defending Gundy.

There was absolutely always going to come a day when the players at most high-major programs clashed with their fans and some coaches. It may be here.

Can’t wait for the “herp derp muh freedom of speech” guys outraged at Gundy being canned while it’s obvious he is done as a recruiter now.

American Athletic Conference has mandated no band performances or spirit squads for their member schools.

NC State's band has already announced 1/2-1/3 the full size band at each home game and no away games, plus UCONN cancelled their's too a while ago. Disappointing, but not shocked.

How are they gonna play instruments while wearing masks? Will they cover the end of their instruments? I mean horns are basically just little covid cannons, potentially blasting the virus everywhere.

At this point I really don't see college sports happening

The plans I've heard involve having band members get to a socially distanced spot with a mask on and then removing their mask. As for instruments being cannons, they're doing studies about it but I haven't heard about results yet.

Yeah, sadly looking that way. Maybe someone mentioned it earlier but both Clempsun and LSU had ~20 people each test positive, probably asymptomatic but, still positive. The logistics of an on-time college football happening is real low.

The SEC in general, and especially Tennessee, though, are still planning on going full speed ahead

If, and it’s a big if, there are college football games this fall...it would seem to me that one of the first and easiest ways to not put even more people at risk would be to just not have the band present at all.

A few coaches saying running the fall without mass cancellations and forfeits is close to zero based on how badly non-contact practice is going now, and the spring season is brought up again.

Not related to spring football per se, but Under Armour have told UCLA this giant rights deal they signed back in 2017 they're going to withdraw from due to "not getting certain marketing benefits for a long time" from the deal. UCLA obviously fighting it.

Lol UA is trying to back out because they're in big financial trouble, not anything UCLA did or didn't do. They're in serious trouble and it wouldn't be surprising to see them go out of business soon.

^ Yeah, the USA Today article said they were having financial issues back in February. So throw in this retail disaster that's happened the past few months, maybe they'll be filing for bankruptcy soon. But every university with Under Armour contracts might have to run to Nike or Adidas.

B1G is gonna go to a conference only schedule this year (or at least plan on it, until we decide to cancel the whole season). I’d expect most other conferences to follow suit.

Definitely sucks for smaller programs that won’t get the money from playing the P5 teams. But I definitely get it.

I assumed it’s a current conference schedule. So, an 8 or 9 game schedule omitting OOC opponents.

Of course this begs the question...how is traveling to Syracuse is any less of a risk than traveling to Troy. And it makes even less sense for teams with in-state OOC opponents

I believe people wanting to travel from Florida to New York, for example, are supposed to quarantine for 2 weeks beforehand. Is Florida State supposed to just chill for 2 weeks before their game @ Syracuse? Just another example of how much of a mess this all is.

RE the BIG moving to conference only, the ACC has also discussed it (https://keepingitheel.com/2020/07/09/report-acc-football-conference-schedule/)

In reality it doesn't keep anyone safer but it gets rid of (more) unnecessary games while keeping some on the table.

I've read that the ACC is planning on a 5-team home and home series which will include Notre Dame becoming each team's schedule. Logic here is that it keeps the no. of players each person interacts with fairly limited while still creating a reasonably long season.

Lol B1G ignoring their own rules to put OSU in the championship game. I hope Northwestern beats the shit out of them, enough to where they fall out of a NY6 bowl.

Can you imagine if the ACC just decided rules don't apply and pushed UNC into a title game? Because that's exactly what just happened here.

I mean...the acc already changed their rules to eliminate the need for this weekend’s games for Clemson and ND. Giving each a bye before the ACCCG. Obviously Clemson wasn’t gonna lose to FSU or whoever they were gonna play...but a loss would’ve potentially knocked Clemson out of the ACCCG. And ND was scheduled to play WF...a loss wouldn’t knock them out of the ACCCG. But a loss to Wake followed by a loss to Clemson would knock them out of the playoff. So yeah....the ACC hedged to protect their chance at two CFP teams. I don’t think it’s a big deal because we all agree Clemson and ND are the top two in the ACC and deserve to play for it. But it did screw Miami out of a chance to make the ACCCG, however slim those chances were. Just like I think it’s obvious OSU is the best team in the B1G and leaving them out of the B1G title game would be kinda lame. Everybody is making it up as they go this year. And that’s fine imo.

I don’t think it’s a big deal to change the B1G’s rules. However. It is still to think that winning the B1G is necessary for OSU to make the CFP. If they were left out of the B1G title game on a schedule technicality but still went undefeated they’d still make the CFP.

I don't think OSU should make the CFP based on their resume + lack of games. Their ONLY decent win is Indiana, who by your own (and obviously the B1Gs) admission isn't good enough to be in the CFP. Both cincinnati and coastal are undefeated with tougher and longer schedules. Even with a B1G title game win over northwestern, i don't think they deserve to be in. I mean they'll get in, because CFP is a big joke, but they definitely don't deserve it based on their body of work.

I mean they have wins over a bad Nebraska team, a bad Penn State team, a bad Rutgers team and a bad Michigan State team. They held on to best Indiana at home by 7. If coastal wins their conference, they'll have beaten a ranked ULL (twice), App and BYU. I'll take those quality wins over three garbage that is the B1G every day.

^^^ yeah, but what the ACC did makes (a bit) more sense. They rearranged games due to Covid cancelations and at least have some justification for it, even if it is a bit arbitrary. The Big Ten literally just said "hey yeah, you know those rules we made at the beginning of the season? Yeah, those aren't important." They have literally no justification

^^^ Ohio State will make the CFP is they are undefeated. It doesn’t matter if they play 5 games or 8 games. It doesn’t matter if they weren’t allowed to play in the conference title game. They are a top 4 team and unless they lose, they’ll make it. I get what you’re saying. But that’s not how this works. A G5 team is never gonna make it over an undefeated P5 team. Even in a crazy pandemic year.

You can argue that their resume isn’t good. But that really isn’t what matters. The committee isn’t ranking resumes. They’re deciding who the top 4 teams are based on several factors...and yea, resume is one of the factors, but not the only factor. I agree that the committee can be dumb and the weekly rankings are silly made for tv BS. G5 programs get totally fucked over in the CFP. But I also completely understand why. Coastal vs Bama in the CFP would be a fun story. But it wouldn’t be a good game. I think you can objectively say Ohio State is better than Coastal and Cincy. I don’t think that statement should have much pushback. And with an undefeated record, it’s crazy to keep them out of the playoff. Also...what are we even arguing? It’s not OSU or Cincy in the CFP...it’s at least OSU, UF, TAMU before you get to Cincy or Coastal.

The rule was arbitrary at the beginning of the year. No need to uphold the arbitrary, silly rule now. The whole season every body has been making it up as they go. Why stop now?

Legit question: who do you think are the 4 best teams in CFB? I don’t really care how you decide that (resume, advanced stats, eye test, etc), I’m just curious.

Quote :
" They rearranged games due to Covid cancelations and at least have some justification for it, even if it is a bit arbitrary. "

It’s equally as arbitrary. OSU had games canceled due to covid and there isn’t time to make up those games. That’s the exact thing that happened with Clemson...FSU game was canceled and instead of making it up they just automatically get to go to the ACCCG. The ACC just wasn’t stupid enough to put a minimum game requirement for making the ACCCG. The B1G made a stupid rule and they fixed it. Blame the B1G for fumbling the start to their season. Or blame the CFP for not moving the playoff games back later into Jan to accommodate the make up games. There’s plenty of blame to go around for this not being as smooth as it should be. Ultimately having no true governing body and leaving everything up to the conferences has created a lot of weird stuff.

I don't think OSU should be in the top 4 over a 1 loss SEC team that has played 3-4 more games. Because OSU has played terrible teams. You've got to penalize them for that joke of a schedule.

If Florida wins the SEC, they should be in the playoffs with Alabama, ND and Clemson. If Alabama wins, Texas A&M should be in over OSU.

My issue is that everyone always says G5 teams can't make the playoffs because their conference schedules aren't good enough. Ohio State has played the easiest schedule of probably the top 20 teams, in addition to playing less games. If we're just gonna give them a pass, better give USC one too.

Should have gone to 8 teams, taken the 5 conference winners however the conferences wanted to decide who that was, then election committee picked top 3 of remaining and seeding.
