First goal was fine, that was a heavy screen. If anything it was on the defense letting them set up that net front. These losses are much more about the canes stars not finishing than Ned getting beat.

Its pretty much a team effort,

Ned letting softies in, and Canes not burying easy ones. most TB goals are on the canes turning it over, or not taking an icing or free chance to get the puck out of the zone.

TB playing pretty much Mistake free hockey and the few times they have made a mistake Canes do nothing with it.

Nino being out is a killer, big physical player that scores a lot of goals and camps out in front of the net, but nobody on the Canes has really showed up or out.


score first in TB and i think the will play loser and have a great chance.

We probably would be better served saving that cap to trade for a significant top six forward. If I had to be honest I’d say Staal, Nino, and Trocheck all had excellent seasons, points wise, and they probably don’t do as well next season. Especially for Staal, and probably Nino too. (Very happy Nino had his bounce back year, he deserved it.)

Svech hopefully will swing in the other direction and have much better luck seeing the puck go in, but regardless I think standing pat and only making minor adjustments would be foolhardy.

I agree that there needs to be some top 6 upgrade, but it's gonna be hard to do. The two worst contracts on the team are Staal and Gardiner and i don't see the team moving on from staal (who is getting paid way too much for a 3rd/4th line center) and i don't know who would take on gardiner unless they haven't watched hockey in 2 years.

Svech was incredibly disappointing this season. Not only did his scoring fall off, but his penchant for taking incredibly bad penalties continued. At this point, I'm not sure how much you can commit to paying him. Personally I'm more excited by Necas now than Svech.

Traded out of the first to pick up two second rounders tomorrow, giving us four second round picks total.

Normally this would infuriate me but this might be the draft where you might as well take some shots. Between all the missed games by the players, and the inability for scouts to travel for the previous season, this year could be an outlier for higher end talent slipping out of the first round.

He got suspended from his junior hockey team for using a slur towards a teammate. He's also a 25 year old former first round pick who has been given up on by 3 different teams already because of his attitude/character issues. Even with all this, i think the twitter reaction has been a little overboard.

From a purely hockey perspective, this is a great signing. He brings exactly what you get with dougie for 1/9 the price. Shit defense and quality offense (he scored more points in 2019-20 than dougie ever has.) To me, this is a low risk/high reward signing. Obviously he is a pretty shitty person, but maybe he really has grown and matured from his past mistakes. If not, they can just cut him loose with minimal losses. If so, they get a year of a top pairing d-man for almost nothing.
