The sodium content of ketchup bothers me more than the sugar

^^^ they do have too much sugar, but to call them "tomato-flavored high fructose corn syrup" is ludicrous and false. tomato puree/paste is the first ingredient on all ketchups.

i have started buying ketchup for the first time in my life starting about 2 years ago. A bottle lasts me about 9 months. i only use it with rotisserie chicken, which i get once a week (i only get one leg, not a whole chicken).

i throw in tabasco into the ketchup in the dipping bowl... love the combination of sweet, salty, and spicy.

As for mayo, I have never bought it and will never buy it, but when I get a burger, I do like a thin layer of mayo on the buns because it adds lubrication without changing the flavor too much, unlike ketchup. Having said that, I do like ketchup on burgers too, so I spread thin layers of mayo on one side and ketchup on the other, or both on each side and mix them up, which is great with fries too. And I have had "Sriracha mayo" at some fancy burger place a couple of times... man that was delicious as hell. Flavored mayos I like a lot more than plain mayo, which I despise if anything more than a thin layer.

A tablespoon in a single hot dog probably wouldn't matter even on strict keto (<20g carbs a day). Certainly wouldn't on a more moderate 40g a day carb diet. Sugar is a proxy for "you have terrible taste".
