I *think* part of it was the timing of when it was negotiated vs the SEC and B1G having more recent negotiations and being able to reset the market while the ACC is still stuck in an older contract.

But I think part of it is the ACC having too much dead weight like GT, BC, Cuse.

Which is funny since some of those teams were brought in based on market expansion, yet take a piece of the pie and which isn’t offset by the value they bring.

Seems like a smaller, competitive conference with strong sports fanbase is the way to go vs expansion for the sake of expanding.

I think it’s far less about having big tv markets and large tv footprint now than it was 15 years ago. I think those dynamics have changed a lot with how games are broadcast and conference networks and streaming.

Supposedly the former B1G commissioner did a bunch of shorter TV contracts, which seemed to have less stability at the time, but in hindsight allowed for more frequent and higher renegotiations when it was time to renew. ACC went with a Bobby Bonilla contract I guess.

Seems like he’s getting some (what feels to me like) unfair criticism on Twitter. He was chair of the committee. But it’s not like he alone made the rankings. If anything he’s just the public face they trot out there week after week.

You could maybe criticize ACC commish Jim Phillips for not being more vocal about the ACCs strengths. Its all political posturing anyways but Sankey never misses a chance to lobby for the SEC

5 conferences and 4 spots. These people who run college football are lucky you can’t screw up the money machine because they are terrible at doing it. Been super lucky up to this point with this format a few upsets have kicked the can but finally hit a year where not having every conference winner in was going to bite them at some point.

I think it’s fair to give him his +cred for putting coaches in a position to be successful even if he didn’t hire the coaches. And yeah, sometimes patience by an AD in not firing a coach is just as important as making a great hire.

Not sure how it all went down and who deserves the credit. But KK retooled his staff after that disaster of a season in 2021-22. In football, bringing in Anae and putting up the money to keep Gibson look like pretty key moves too.

Ehh. We’ll just be back here again next year with the LSU shit. There’s like 50+ college coaches that could’ve gotten this roster to Dayton just like Wade did. I care way less about who the coach is and more about the money being there to help competitive. But I guess if our big boosters can’t get excited to pony up money for anybody but Wade then we aren’t a serious basketball program anyways.

I think the coach is going to have a big impact on how much NIL you can drum up, between their own individual brand/marketing skills, and their ability to attract top level talent (which itself attracts NIL).

If he leaves because he likes the admin better somewhere else, then I'm just saying there is likely something that needs to be fixed somewhere in our system. If he left to take the Indiana job, or Michigan, or even like an Ohio State, I'd be like, "OK, that's a move up for him in the current landscape, let's go get the next coach" instead I'm over here like "what did we fuck up that made this guy like his chances better with a lateral move after year 1."
