Me telling you that Ive seen this a dozen times is nothing to get frustrated about man, seriously. And I would bet that ive seen probably just as much as you have when it comes to computers. So...you don't want to go there with me. Just have some respect for me, okay? Because I respect you.

I'm curious about what the product was where you saw the uptime to be in the years. And a dozen times to boot?10/3/2006 6:30:02 PM |

Best I can do is
Uptime is 711 days, 17 hours, 4 minutes
and let me tell you.... this 6509 needs upgraded code big time (and to be moved off CATOS)
I'd hate to work for a company with a 3+ year uptime switch/router... the features would just suck. Anytime you wanted to run something you would be scared it would crash it... netflow... ip accounting... hell.... snmp polling certain MIBS would kill her
Keep'em coming Bobby, I enjoy sending these around
5.5 years... sick uptime.... 10/3/2006 10:57:43 PM |

Technically, I'm an enterprise/campus switching expert, but I've got to know routers, too.
Now robster is a routing guy.

Ok, I'll bite. Refute my statement:
"[uptimes of 5 or 6 years are uncommon because] most companies perform scheduled software upgrades on a semi-regular basis"
So far all you've done is make claims without backing anything up with actual facts.10/4/2006 9:31:01 AM |

I only take issue with Earl's claim that he has "seen as much" as Bobby, being 9 years his junior and knowing a little about Bobby's background 10/4/2006 2:46:31 PM |
Breezer95 All American 6304 Posts user info edit post |
analogy maybe....
it would be like an unproven rookie in any sport coming into a game and telling the 9yr vets that not only do they not know what they are talking about... but that said rookie is more experienced in the sport - it just makes no sense... hence the issue.
bobby made a very rational reply to it in his last post. I am also curious to see what Earl's reply is to that 10/4/2006 2:59:06 PM |

Hence why this customer is calling TAC... I mean, when you are running code that hasnt been upgraded in that long, and you are a PE router, then you probably cant support the number of routes needed... not to mention the lack of features and important security updates.10/4/2006 3:09:34 PM |

makes me want to see what the up time on our cisco routers are at work. Although, besides the point, my dlink router at home is from 98 and has been working flawlessly since then, minus the cable modem crapping out once in a while with the occasional 3am brownout which happens to be in the middle of a gaming match... 7/27/2008 9:37:28 PM |

^^^out of the 12 wireless networks on my street, i'm the only one with WPA2, and there's only one other person running WPA, the rest are WEP
i think people got wireless routers a long time ago and are failing to see why they need to upgrade.

well the main reason that i dont bother getting them to replace it is because their lot is so big that it doesnt matter
none of the other houses or a wardriver on the street can pick it up 7/28/2008 1:28:03 PM |

Seems plausible, I know that we set up a consumer-level router (Netgear RT314) in the house we moved into my sophomore year, sometime in the summer of '99, and it didn't seem like bleeding edge technology or anything.7/29/2008 10:56:51 AM |
