i have a fairly old backup (8/2002) that I am about to u/l to the server from where i can restore individual galleries... but only from people that i care for ... and they must have NO gallery (not even created since the crash) for me to restore

All mine are gone, too. Which means that I'm going to do what I put off so long to do in the first place...rely completely on my own server's photo gallery for my needs.

I don't really want to do this, but the ability to upload with a flexibility that is several hundred orders of magnitude greater than TWW's through Gallery's Gallery Remote utility is extremely well worth it to me.

Hey CrazyJ... this is a perfect time to put a limit on the photo galleries for non-premiums so this won't happen again (assuming it messed up from having too much data to handle).

i just restored some from some of you that got trashed... i might go through and do a compare to the old backup to see what i can do about getting those restored.

i feel really irresponsible with this whole situation, but the truth of it is that for us to offer this service for free, there had to be this kind of chance for failure. the photo gallery takes up almost 10 gigs. I can only keep 1 backup on the server. it costs me $20-30 in bandwidth to back it up offsite, plus i don't have a reliable enough connection to easily back it up (roadrunner tends to kick me off). my datacenter charges insane rates to let me backup on SAN.

what is really bullshit is that the backup was insufficient. I used some really old archiving utilility I had because it was super lightweight.
