"On Monday, doctors in Raleigh, N.C., will remove the cervical thoracic brace from around the broken neck of Erik Cole.

And then the Carolina Hurricanes left winger will hold a special ceremony for the plastic-and-steel support that's been clamped to him almost every minute since early March.

"I'm going to run over it a few times with my Cadillac," Cole said yesterday. "And then I'm going to drive at least a few miles down the highway, dragging it behind the car."

He vows there won't be even a single bolt left to sell on eBay."

That fucker Jack Todd is a draft dodger. This is what i got from wikipedia: "He left the U.S. Army in 1970 to avoid being sent to Vietnam and settled in Vancouver, BC."

"Cole says that late last month, Orpik tried to get his cellphone number from Mark Recchi, who had been traded to the Hurricanes from Pittsburgh five days after the check.

"I told Mark to tell him not to bother. I wasn't interested in his call," Cole said. "At that point, I felt a call was more for his benefit than for mine, of him trying to clear his conscience.

"It's up to a player to make decisions out there. Things happen quickly, and you choose to take advantage of situations or you don't. Accidents will happen, and there are always going to be mistakes and misfortunes.

"But I think his first comments told me how he really felt about this. I definitely look forward to next year, when we get to play Pittsburgh.""

Note to self: get tickets to Pittsburgh game next year.

I think that was a best case scenario. He still has a lot of rehab to do. I wouldn't expect him back until next season.

who does that?

can you even call yourself a sports fan in general? thats like being down 1-0 in the 5th and leaving because you are gonna lose the baseball game

^while i see your point, dropping 2 games in a row at home to start a series is much worse than being down 1-0 in the 5th inning of a baseball game!

being down 2-0 was nothing short of devastating.....i mean, we were one odd bounce, one single goal away in game three's OT from being down 3-0, an impossible hole.

its true that in the new NHL, being down 2-0 goals is now easier to come back from, but being down 2-0 games is still what it always was.

SET US UP THE BOMBchuk is pretty solid defensively, more so than Tverdovsky. The top six are playing pretty well recently (not great, but better), Commodore especially, so he doesn't really have a spot to fill in.

at least boobsrgreat has officially been proven wrong, the habs cannot win in 6 games.

i said the canes in 5; now, if ward (or a competent gerber) had been in goal, we would have split at home, and the series would have been over in 5 games.

How are they ruining any good prices? If you think they're selling the tickets for too much (i.e. more than $3 over face value) just threaten to report them.

If on the other hand you're trying to sell tickets for more money than they're selling for because they actually obey the law, I have no sympathy for you trying to rip off the fans.

you realize that Gerber has been sick with the flu for the past few weeks. He's lost over 10 lbs and cannot get the energy or weight back.

No, they wouldn't have. That's not hockey.

They didn't do it with Staal or O'Neill, so why do it with Gerber?

He disappeared for two long stretches. As a forward he can't intrinsically "cost" the team a game like a goaltender can, but that doesn't change the situation from a press standpoint.

If goaltenders are subject to different rules, where are the stories about Miller and Giguere having the flu?

notice we only heard about the bug after he was pulled. if his cold was so bad that he actually lost 13 lbs in a week, theres no way he would have started.

which is my point.

the situation is very different.

It's the playoffs. It's hockey. Unless a doctor forbids a guy from playing, he's going to play. Shit, I remember when Brent Gilchrist had groin muscles fucking tearing off of the bones, and he would just go to the locker room and get it numbed up, and get back out there. Mario Lemieux had to be helped to the ice some games because he was in such pain. It didn't matter how sick Gerber was; if he wanted to go, he was going to go. The coach is always going to at least give the guy the chance. Once he saw he wasn't up to it, he got him out.

DIFFERENT SITUATION

the canes can tell the press whatever the fuck they want. they dont have to be consistent, they dont have to be honest.

Explain to me how the situation of Gerber playing like shit and getting yanked in favor of a rookie is different from the situation of Giguere playing like shit and getting yanked in favor of a rookie.

I never claimed that.

It would, however, be a 180 degree turn from the history of this organization and that of the game of hockey in general.
