i agree...solitaire for now, side stones for old lady (ya know, around the time you should be buying your lady a fabulous anniversary ring)

I like side stones because mine are actually set in the band which is more modern in my opinion. I also like antique settings like the one MaximaDrvr with the side stones/

That ring is GORGEOUS!

ok i think differently...when i think side stones, i think this:

which looks old lady to me...and i think "anniversary" when i see one

a BAND with diamonds (your top pic) doesn't look old lady to me...it's just not my preference. i looked at a few diamond bands for my wedding band to sit with my solitaire...very pretty; just not my thing when i had it on.

the bottom pic is a solitaire.

I sorta like all the diamonds side-stone sized instead:

but given the two options you gave, I suppose I'd pick solitaire... but seeing as how I rarely wear rings, it would probably take time to get me used to something sticking up off my hand like that

^^ i really like that second one (not a fan of the first). like as an actual ring, i think it would be really pretty. with a plain wedding band.

or obviously it could probably be used as the wedding band i guess for the people that are like all diamonds and sparkle everywhere.

but i think it is just really simple as an engagement ring. and different.

I proposed on Friday (successfully ).

I bought the ring from QTPie. I am really happy with the ring and would definitely recommend her to anyone who is shopping around. As she was helping me find what I wanted, it was more like getting advise from a buddy than buying from a salesperson. In the end I got everything I wanted at the price I had in mind.

More importantly, my girlfriend was stunned and loves the ring!

Hard to see but there are 6 little diamonds set in the band on either side and the band is hand engraved.

Hey guys, they are just rocks, lol. I'd rather spend that cash on a trip to the Greek Islands, but then again I'm not a girl. Very nice looking Jewelery though, grats.

It's amazing how many people on The Dubs are getting hitched. 8 years ago, everyone was like 18 or 19 years old and wanted to know what party was the happening spot to be this weekend. Now we're all grown up and planning our lives.

^^thats probably part of the reason its hard for there to be a dedicated new user base on this site. think about the number of 25 - 30year olds (excluding the police) who are on this site now compared to in 2001. but that is a discussion for another thread.

I was just thinking about that the other day, so many people getting engaged/having kids, such a change from a few years ago.

LOVE that ring! Very pretty!!!

i need a ring that you can wear nitrile gloves over.

where the diamonds are flush mounted, but still beautiful.

any suggestions?

^ My diamond sticks up and I wear gloves all the time. I've never had a problem with the ring poking holes in the glove, if that's what you're concerned about.

What you are looking for is called channel set. Several small diamonds so it's cheaper too.

Yeah, the channel set rings are usually called wedding bands instead of engagement rings so try looking at them. An example, listed as a wedding band on blue nile but with plenty of diamind to serve as an engagement ring

Situation:

Diamond came loose, originally from a town I'm not going back to, and the place I used to take it went out of business. What's my best option for getting this gem reset?

Go to a couple of local shops and get estimates. It shouldn't cost much to fix.

yeah- i proposed in the winter, outside. the inner-pocket of big overcoats is great for ring boxes and flasks

you'd probably look silly trying this in the summer

not enough detail - go price the diamonds out on bluenile.com - in a store you'll pay 5-10% more typically and sometimes more

^^ yeah I guess it'll depend on where I decide to do it, I'm still leaning towards just holding the ring though

^ buy it on there too... I just got mine from there and its sweet

you can get a lot of ring for $3k. i'd venture a guess that you could spend $1,500 on a really nice engagement ring, but i'm not much for those fancy shmancy uber expensive rings so what do i know?

don't spend less than 4k, otherwise you will get something that you regret and want to replace at some point. i aim to spend 6k, and i'm relatively frugal with my money.

jesus, what a crock of shit. we spent less than that on my engagement ring and both wedding bands (one on either side) and i am so absolutely happy with my rings. i hate that people spend so much money on shit. bigger is not always better.

here's what i got:

depends on who you know, color of the stone, and clarity of the stone

"1 carat, round cut"

can be a little over $2k to a little over $28k

that's just for the rock, 0.90-1.11

most settings probably max out around $500 or so? maybe less maybe more, depends on what you want
