Okay, so I'm looking at the handbook and it looks like it was not a travel. And the rule is even more lenient than these guys are saying. The shuffling still counts as a travel though.

Ok you fucking dumbasses:

Quote :
"
Section 66. Traveling

Art. 1.Traveling occurs when a player holding the ball moves a foot or both
feet in any direction in excess of prescribed limits described in this Rule.

Art. 2. Aplayer who catches the ball with both feet on the playing court
may pivot, using either foot. When one foot is lifted, the other is the pivot
foot.

Art. 3. A player who catches the ball while moving or dribbling may stop
and establish a pivot foot as follows:

a. When both feet are off the playing court and the player lands:
1. Simultaneously on both feet, either may be the pivot foot;
2. On one foot followed by the other, the first foot to touch shall be
the pivot foot;
3. On one foot, the player may jump off that foot and simultane-
ously land on both; neither foot can be the pivot foot.

b. When one foot is on the playing court:
1. That foot shall be the pivot foot when the other foot touches in a
step;
2. The player may jump off that foot and simultaneously land on
both; neither foot can then be the pivot foot.

Art. 4. After coming to a stop and establishing the pivot foot:
a. The pivot foot may be lifted, but not returned to the playing court,
before the ball is released on a pass or try for goal;

b. The pivot foot shall not be lifted before the ball is released to start a
dribble.

Art. 5. After coming to a stop when neither foot can be the pivot foot:
a. One or both feet may be lifted, but may not be returned to the play-
ing court, before the ball is released on a pass or try for goal;
b. Neither foot shall be lifted, before the ball is released, to start a drib-
ble.

and the part you bolded says the pivot foot may be lifted, but it does NOT say you can establish a second pivot foot (just in case you forgot "foot may be lifted" applies to jumping). it was clearly a missed travel.

It's funny, Tim Floyd called Primetime with the Packman earlier this week and told Packer he was looking for his team to run. Everyone laughed at him, so far USC is quicker than UNC.

Why don't you read it first.

Art. 3. A player who catches the ball while moving or dribbling may stop
and establish a pivot foot as follows:

b. When one foot is on the playing court:
1. That foot shall be the pivot foot when the other foot touches in a
step;

2. The player may jump off that foot and simultaneously land on
both; neither foot can then be the pivot foot.

Article 3 explains how Green establishes his right foot as the pivot -- he stops dribbling and turns on it. He jumped off his left foot to take the shot. Jumping off his left foot doesn't make it a second pivot foot, as the relevant rule below states:

Art. 4. After coming to a stop and establishing the pivot foot:
a. The pivot foot may be lifted, but not returned to the playing court,
before the ball is released on a pass or try for goal;

He lost the ball for a second, and when he recaptured it, both feet were on the floor.

So you should be quoting Article 2:

A player who catches the ball with both feet on the playing court may pivot, using either foot. When one foot is lifted, the other is the pivot foot.

I GUESS EVERY SINGLE BASKETBALL COMMENTATOR THAT TALKS ABOUT BASKETBALL FOR A LIVING IS WRONG AND DOES NOT KNOW THE RULE BOOK BY SAYING THAT IT WAS CLEARLY A TRAVEL WHILE THEY WATCH THE REPLAY

he pivoted on the second foot before he jumped...he leaned around the defender with a second pivot foot...travel FTW

^Yes, they are wrong. They'll be apologizing tomorrow. (And you know it, too. The announcers said its a travel because he lifted the pivot foot, but now you aren't saying that.)

Now you are just making rules up that aren't even in the fucking book. I'll take that as your concession, sunshine.

HAHAHA, CBS just came up with a completely different reason and a new angle. GUESS THEY WERE WRONG BEFORE. OMFG COMMENTATORS CANT BE WRONG

^^he clearly lifted his pivot foot which is IMPLIED WHEN I SAID HE ESTABLISHED A SECOND PIVOT FOOT...it's you and billy packer vs. the world

and obviously the officials aren't going to say it was a bad call no matter what comes out, they protect each other and will say that it was handled correctly. according to the rules, it's a travel.

Quote :

It's in the rule book that you can't have two different pivot feet. That isn't made up "sunshine."

yeah I don't feel like reading back through all the argument but I can't see how it couldn't be a travel when he did two things:

1) elevated his pivot foot and then came back down

and

2) switched pivot foots while slipping between defenders to put up the shot

yes I think vandy got screwed, but missed calls are a part of the game. they still played a lot better game than I expected out of them and it's a shame it ended like that. I also don't understand why they didn't call a timeout at the end and at least try a longer pass or something. oh well, good season and decent tournament for them especially after slipping a little bit at the end of the regular season

It is a travel because he lifted his pivot foot. If he doesn't lift his pivot foot its not a travel. In all your "rule" postings its assumed that another pivot foot hasn't been established, which is what happened when he pivoted on his left foot.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about Ole Roy's (he gave himself this name, by the way ) game plan. How is "run hard and play physical until the other team gets into foul trouble" a genius game plan?

I mean, the commentators were all talking about how good it was that he stuck with his plan. His team is like a huge army of mercenaries compared to the opponents (small bands of volunteers, I guess). Of course, you're gonna stick with the "keep it physical and cause fouls" plan.

Fish in a barrel, dumbass. Articles 2-3 explain how to establish a pivot foot. The rest explain what you can do once you have established a pivot foot. You can lift the pivot foot once it has been established. Lifting the pivot foot DOES NOT make the other foot a pivot foot.

I hope you aren't studying a major that requires any kind of reading.

^rotating on your non-pivot foot with the original pivot foot lifted is a travel.

first let's define pivot:

Quote :
"The stationary foot around which the ball handler is allowed to pivot without dribbling."

when a pivot foot is established, it is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to pivot on the OTHER foot without traveling...which is what happened. you can defend it until you are blue in the face, but two pivot feet were established BEFORE leaving the ground with both feet...that's a travel 100% of the time.

No, he was posting on the other page. You must have missed it.

Quote :
"MOODY: ^rotating on your non-pivot foot with the original pivot foot lifted is a travel."

?

How do you rotate on one foot with the other foot lifted? Is he dancer?

If he put his pivot foot back on the floor and used it to rotate on the other foot, then, yes, it's a second pivot foot and a travel. But it looks like he picked up his pivot foot and released the ball for the shot before his pivot foot hit the floor.

CBS was looking for something exciting to talk about since this has been this shittiest tournament in recent years.

[Edited on March 24, 2007 at 12:41 AM. Reason : Shuffling is our best chance at a travel here. And even then, it looks like he was straight.]

^^once you establish a pivot foot, the only way you can lift it without a travel is to jump. it is impossible to have a second pivot foot without traveling. if you watch the play, green establishes his pivot foot and moves around a bit, then steps with his other foot, KEY is that he steps forward and doesn't jump, lifting his original pivot foot and creating a SECOND pivot foot. that extra step before the jump is a travel.

if you've played basketball a lot it's a fluid motion, but you can feel that it's a travel. i've been over this exact play 100 times at least because one of my high school teammates thought it was a legit move and was called for traveling 100 times and was constantly 'coached' on the correct way despite leading the league in travels.

all the teams left are the teams who have been good all year, osu, carolina, florida, ucla and kansas have been rotating in the top 8-10 all year and georgetown right behind them

memphis has won what like 25 games in a row now? and oregon has been pretty consistant all year, but they are hot now

I think it's been an ok tournament, but it sets up for a lot of very well matched teams to play

Good choke job by Duke's point guard in the Women's Tourney. Down 1 with 4 seconds, stills the in bounds pass and gets fouled on last second shot. Make 1 to tie, 2 to win... Bricks both.

Duke's girls are out.

Who really cares, but hell... Good to see Duke lose.
