Just watched the 6 star wanted level. Seemed pretty tame from what I remember in VC/SA. It's been a while since I played it, but it looked like the equivalent of a 2 or 3 star wanted level in SA. 2 stars because the cops weren't swarming the entire time, 3 stars because helicopters were involved.

Seems like once you passed the 3 star level in the old games the cops were always there. Of course they would spawn a block away in the old games, so maybe that's the difference.

^i think they made it more realistic. for example you have a search grid on your map that shows where the cops are looking for you and it won't change unless a cop spots you then the search grid focuses on your last known position

two cool things

found a fucking awesome stunt jump: it's in the top right of the map, a section called "steinberg"...anyway i was on a chopper and got a huge head start and hit the ramp...you end up jumping over a motherfucking pool and it looks incredible

also

found a huge observatory tower...the only way up is a ladder that takes you fucking forever to climb, but when you are climbing up you can change the angle, shit is hot. anyway, you get to the top and it's a circle with binoculars you can check the city out with...unfortunately didn't have enough cash to use them and jumped down the ladder hole and landed directly on my head

Theres a mission about 5-6 missions in where you have to climb one when you're chasing somebody

Been playing single player since about 10

I can understand some of the complaints about driving, but I prefer the new more realistic system

Before you could turn at full speed almost in a Hummer...now you have to slow or you'll flip it

I haven't checked multiplayer yet but I'll get on this evening...I figure a group of us can get together

hahah yeah that was an epic fail. Just had some fun on a motorcycle.

i just discovered a few really cool features:

1) dial 911 on your cell phone then call either the police, ambulance or a fire truck and steal it. Fire truck is fun as always.
2) steal a cop car then access the police database via the cars laptop computer. See who's most wanted, criminal records on certain people, search by photos of suspects etc.
3) call for back up when inside a police car
4) the physics of wrecking on a bike is fuckin awesome

Apparently GTA IV broke the entire playstation network.

It's a good thing that the online aspect of the games are the same and the underlying network doesn't affect things at all, right Shrike?

^^What are you rambling about again? The PSN is fine, Rockstar's servers are down. Even if it weren't, surely you aren't dumb enough to be implying that Xbox Live has never had outages, like say during the entire month of December or when the CoD4 map packs were released? I seem to remember MS handing out free XBLA games for that very reason. Nice try though.

Rockstar doesn't have any XBL servers. GTAIV on the 360 is using the same P2P system that all Xbox Live games use, your consoles are the servers. For the PS3 version, they are running their own servers for it. I think I read a rumor they farmed out party of Gamespy's network for it, not really sure.

You're wrong...EA Sports (Madden, Tiger Woods, NBA Live, etc) has their own servers for online gaming on XBL...I'm sure other games have their own servers as well, since XBL is such a massive online community

i thought xbl was just the medium that they HAVE to go through to make games play online through MS's console... i am pretty sure xbl has some sort of servers, but from what i can tell it all about the dev's servers for online play. it like xbl is the tv, and the games companies are the tv stations...

What do you mean what am I talking about? The majority of 360 games use the XBL P2P service. There are exceptions, like basically all EA games (which are generally spoken of as being inferior online to games that use XBL), but most games including GTA IV use the XBL P2P. Don't get so defensive, I'm not saying it's a bad thing. However, it would never work on the PS3 since so many people are using wireless, the connection quality would be wildly inconsistent.

i'm tempted to buy GTA4 on the way home from work tonight, and return it in a day or two when Gamefly sends me mine (since I'm getting it for $44.95) but I'll probably just watch the Spurs Suns game and save the GTA Crack for teh weekend
